I think it is clear that the Peter we see is alternate Peter. The poster on his wall with the shuttle difference tells us that. I'm wondering if the rest of things that we think we know could be on the order of the things we thought we knew with the Sixth Sense. Walter has said on a few occasions in reference to what he did as "I missed my son." The only way he would miss his son, was if his son was gone (i.e. dead).

I'm not sure that the ongoing explanations that original Peter died will work anymore. Granted, the gravestone adds some confusion. The observer is asking Walter how to stop a death from happening. It seems to me that Walter did the same thing. He did something to placate fate, which wouldn't be necessary if fate had already landed it's blow.
Would he really lose a son and then put other world Peter in additional possible harm?. And as for the "where do The Observers come from?" I too cannot wait to find that out. I've been waiting to see if that boy they found underneath that building last season is going to be an observer.
