I read in an article that Jay Leno brings in $233 million ad revenue for NBC. Conan brings in $80 million. (Letterman brings in $185 million, for those who are curious).

That might explain why NBC is more concerned about keeping Jay around than about Conan's bruised ego.

I also read that NBC is saving $25 million a week with this move.

I also think this is the beginning of the end of serialized dramas on major networks, which will be unfortunate. Oh well. Cable series have been earning most of the awards anyway.

My Name is Earl is likely headed for the scrap heap as well.

NBC admits it can't afford to program 22 hours of weekly primetime scripted series anymore. Talk shows are cheaper to produce than scripted shows.

I read that the average network drama costs $3 million per episode. So that's $15 million per week for Mon-Fri at 10PM. Leno's show will probably cost no more than $2 million for the entire week. Even when you throw in Leno's $30 million in salary,...

That's 3 whole hours of TV. Throw in the Law & Orders and you have a whopping 5 hours. Fill in the rest with crap Deal Or No Deal episodes.

The rest of it can go to hell, even Heroes. Luckily things are so bad that shows like Chuck and Life will probably be given full runs.

Poor Conan, Jay and the network have been fucking with him ever since they made that deal. The funniest part is that Jay's keeping the Tonight Show set and Conan has to go get some other set to do....The Tonight Show <3.

Seriously though, Jay Leno needs to stop being on television 17 years ago.
