hmmm...good question.

my 401K folks tell me that I'm safe come retirement @ 65. that's 20 years from now. Still, I put some other funds away - away from the US tax code (no - you'll never know). Am I rich? - wellllll??!!!....there's enough to live on withdrawing $60K a year till I die ( Aye started saving at 15 yo - parents!!?? - go figure that that was their best advise to me - and now it's payoff - or will shortly) - Am I happy?

I love to go on vacations. If hubby didn't make a lot of money, we wouldn't be able to go on vacations like we do and I wouldn't be as happy.. or I would have to work more then I do and that would make me unhappy.

Maybe I'm just spoiled. I don't know.

When I found out I had a cracked tooth I was extremely unhappy. I was also in pain.

I was unhappy about what I was going to have to go through to deal with the issue. I was not worried about how much it was going to cost.

Money does not equal happiness.
It only frees you from the extra stress of having to scrape together the funds to pay for unexpected expenses.

Well I make a lot more than I did ten years ago and I have a house & car. Yes, I am happier but would be much happier if I won the lottery and got to stay at home and do nothing all day. ;)

Honestly, unless you are super filthy rich like Bill Gates, I think no matter how much money you have you always want more. People tend to spend toward or slightly above their income levels, no matter what that level is.

Really, the key is what kuta said...spending less than you earn and being happy with that.

Does money = happiness? Did you ever have any unhappy moment ever since you became rich? The unhappy moment has to be NOT money related. For example, if you only have $2 million, you can't complain because you can't buy a private jet (since this is still money related). So, did money bring you happiness?
