Might not be a bad idea to up the prize money if they can find a way to do it profitably. It might reinvigorate the franchise a bit, create some new buzz, and draw in more viewers.

Didn't they stop giving away cars as part of the prize during S12? I honestly think the winner deserves the car (or the extra $100,000) more than whoever is the most popular in that season.

I always liked it when Jeff recapped the prizes before he reads the final votes (money, car, bragging rights, etc.)

The amount is fine as is. Maybe $1,500,000 would work but I mean, no more than that.

Doesn't Millionaire give out 1 million AFTER taxes? I think Survivor should just do that.

I don't think any American reality/game show has ever done that--it just wouldn't make any sense. The network is giving up a million dollars; they'd have to give up almost double that for the contestant to walk away with a million post-taxes. Besides, there could be claims of unfairness, since the taxes vary based on where you live, so it's not...

I agree that they should increase the prize money. $1 million's a lot, but with inflation and all the other reality shows around, they need something to stand out with Survivor and they could always tout it as "the biggest prize in reality show history" or something like that.

I agree they should at least make it so the contestants actually receive a million dollars after taxes.

The only time there will be a prize larger than 1 mill is probably if they do an "All Winner" edition of the show, since that would be the only way to secure some of the winners (Brian Heidik; Danni Boatwright; Tom Westman) to come back.

Good point. Survivor is not nearly as popular as it used to be (I fell out of my chair when I saw that the Borneo finale had 52 million viewers--that's ridiculous). But it must still get a decent amount of viewers, as it has held steady in that 8 p.m. Thursday primetime slot. Perhaps the final season of Survivor will be for more money.

$1 million isn't really a whole lot anymore...plus after taxes it's more like $600,000. CBS should think about increasing the prize to $1.5 million or $2 million. Back when Deal or No Deal was reeeeaaaally popular, they'd have three episodes per week where contestants could win up to $1 million.
