Google the 1000 pound man or half ton man....that dude had it done and his wife continued to feed him crap and soda. Waste of time in his case, and he is scary looking too.

A friend of mine had it and lost over 100 pounds, I got all the clothes she shrank out of, yay me! But I did notice that all she talked about other people was their size. Who had the surgery, who was gonna have it, who gained their weight back. I had to tell her, BORING.

The bypass surgery creates a very small stomach pouch and the rest of the stomach is then "bypassed". I have met several really LARGE women who had that surgery done, but managed to overeat again, and that little pouch expanded enough to seriously overeat again. A lot of fat folks have real food issues, mostly from being food deprived as a kid by well intentioned parents, so they have developed an unhealthy relationship with food. I have a friend who had it. She had a metabolic and/or glandular disorder, and is one of the most active people I ever met - skiing, running, a regular gym schedule. She has always eaten so healthily and is constantly moving and exercising, and her body just kept on weight. It has done wonders for her, and I am very proud of her for doing it, since she already maintained a healthy lifestyle. But giant fat lazy people who do it to get skinny suck balls and should not be glorified.

One of my coworkers just had this done about four weeks ago. She did the full bypass and not the lap band. Her doctor made her loose 25 pounds before the surgery. I hope it goes well for her. She is a real dynamo with all the weight. I can't weight to see how much she does when she is no longer encumbered with the weight.

guppie, that's what I've heard too. After the staples are removed they go back. It takes a permanent lifestyle change to keep weight like that off.

There is a doctor here who requires his patients to lose 15-20 lbs on through diet and exercise before having the surgery. The idea is that they have to prove themselves able to make the lifestyle change to keep the weight off after the surgery.

Researchers have seen that weight-loss surgery appears to cure type 2 diabetes, which they have attributed to the huge drop in pounds. After all, being overweight is a risk factor for diabetes, and losing weight can effectively take care of the problem.

Hang on though. Isn't the long-term success of these surgeries very much in question? Don't a lot of people put most, if not all, of the weight back on?

I dunno........

I know one lady who had that surgery. She literally become a MILF in a matter of weeks. It is a good thing that she already have good eating habits.

Since she lost her weight, her marriage and self-confidence has steady gotten better and dance more often.

I agree...this is the most bullshit reason to "applaud" someone. Because someone is too lazy to diet/exercise? (I know there are people out there with a true medical reason for obesity, but I'm too lazy to google the percentages).

It's horrifying how much this has become an acceptable weight-loss program.

Have you ever read the yearly issue of People where the women lost 100-200 lbs using diet and exercise? They get the same medical results.

Except they are not too fucking lazy to do it by surgery and don't mind that it takes time and effort.

I know that is true in two of the peole I know that had the surgery. The other two I know were not diabetics.None eat much. But once they had the flapping skin removal surgery they look better in clothes,...

I noticed on all the talk shows when someone says I lost X amount of weight thanks to gastric bypass surgery, the audience always applauds.

WTF? Why? Because they came up with some money? What's the accomplishement here? We don't applaud flat chested women who got a boob job.
