I think this whole discussion has been about two different things.

Is it possible to eat healthy foods on a budget? Sure. Is it harder to get access to healthy foods in some areas? Absolutely. But the biggest obstacle to healthy eating is ignorance. Most people learn what to eat and how to cook from their mothers. One look at the mom can tell you that the daughter is doomed. And I've observed a huge amount of resistance among even otherwise smart and educated people to change...

Obviously, not all carbs are the same, just as not all fat is the same. I agree that beans and rice are great, and there is a lot of nutritional value in them. In fact, I eat them fairly regularly.

Anasazi beans taste like pinto beans to me. They're supposed to be less gas-producing though, so that's good.

Wow, doobie you are all fired up, beans do not have 44g carbs per serving it is mor like 24g, and you subtract the fiber from the carbs, Relax doobie, smoke a doobie.
I just really disagree with the fact poor people can not afford healthy food because it is expensive and unhealthy food is cheaper, I think it is a lame excuse. I also think beans are one of the most healthy foods to eat and they are dirt cheap, but I am not going to continue to argue about it. Ok you win.

According to easily looked up nutritional info online:
carbohydrates-
1 cup white rice (cooked)= 53g
1 cup brown rice (cooked)= 49g
1 cup black beans (cooked)= 41g
1 cup pinto beans (cooked)= 44g
etc.

Now I suppose you can debate what is a carb, but you shouldn't have to back down from wrsrules attacking your completely factual info, CBR. Also, fattening /= something having a lot of fat.

oh I went to a Dog Days Of Summer event and I saw CBR's and one of them had a very weird foot like a birth defect!! We saw Dock Dogs and Super Disc dogs and agility! I'll have to post the pics.

didn't say beans were full of carbohydrates - sorry I didn't put quotes around or run the beans and rice into each other, or otherwise be clearer, but I was talking about something like red beans and rice or a bean and rice burrito, which, since white rice is what most people buy...

OK, whatever, you guys are right, people are over weight because healthy food is too dang expensive and all the unhealthy food is so cheep and easy to find at the store, sure, ok. Beans are really bad and make you gain weight, full of fat and carbs, not good at all for your cholesteral or heart, just a really bad food to have to eat, Don't eat beans you will get fat people.
