You can lust after multiple people.

For me, being in love implies committment, and it would be hard to commit to more than one person. Unless you're living at Merkyl's ranch.

Love is complicated so I think it is possible, and that it's just a societal norm that we're expected to love only one person. I personally prefer monogamy but love and sex aren't always the same thing.
