LOL what did I say, "illegal theft?" I meant legalized theft. D'uh. It's unjust, immoral, inefficient and wasteful. That it IS legal is what
is destroying the moral fabric of our society, despite what the Neo-Cons say.

Beefcake- You're right about it being harder for the government to get money in an asset based system, which is the biggest reason I'm against it
being the main form of collecting taxes. It would require greater governmental oversight to insure that taxes are applied accurately. People would obviously
lie about what they owned, and there wouldn't be a good way to control that without government inspectors going to your home (as far as I can see). While
there are obviously ways around a monetary exchange tax, it involves two people, and both parties would have to not report the exchange. If employers were not
required to inform the government of worker's income, you can be sure that there would be massive amounts of under reported wages. It's harder to
cheat the system when another person is involved.

In Minnesota, there's a state sales tax that's around 7%, plus in downtown Minneapolis there is are several additional city taxes that takes it up to
10%. This past election, the idiots out here passed a constitutional amendment (I'm not kidding!) adding a sales tax "for the environment" that
is going to add another fraction of a percent.

Clothes and some food items are excluded from the sales tax. I'm not sure what the wording of the law is, but it ends up with some ridiculous results. For
instance, if you buy a Snickers bar, you have to pay sales tax on it, but if you buy a Twix or KitKat bar, those are tax-free because they are classified as
'bread'.

Oh, and I would gladly pay a 30% consumption tax if it meant that I didn't have to pay any income tax!
