I figure nobody's going to refund my 50 bucks if the kid ends up swinging round a pole instead of going to school.

Congratulations, that's very um noble of you.

Even with cremation and no casket, funeral expenses are usually around $2000, give or take and depending on your region of course. I always preferred doing the donation thing, as flowers wind up in the trash or on the grave (where they die quickly) within a few days.

One woman who worked here died suddenly earlier this year.
They were going around asking for donations for her 5 year old daughter's college fund.
I didn't contribute.

My aunt asked for donations in money - she had to pay for two funerals and burials plus host a get together for the family at a reastraunt. She still received plants and flowers but not that many. She did not have life insurance for either.

We actually know a funeral director. Mark up is insane. Cremation is the way to go.

I just find funerals with open caskets so undignified. I don't want to be watched while I have no control over the situation. With my family of jokesters, I'd be surprised if they didn't stand me up in a corner. With a donation cup in my hand.

Funeral costs are expensive if you are dumb enough to do that. Join your state's creamation society for a one-time fee of about $50. The creamtion itself costs $800 - $1000 Without any viewing. They come pick up the body and you pick up the ashes in like a milk cartoon or perhaps $100 - $200 for an urn. A memorial mass costs about $100. This is sooooooooooo fucking tacky.

They'll pass around an envelope at work - but it's for a group floral arrangement - not so the young widow can get that much-needed tummy tuck so she can resume her pole dancing career.

Yeah this happened at work just last week for me. Donations were immediately solicited (like within 20 hours of the death), but there wasn't even a sympathy card circulated around - maybe a not so subtle snub for seeming greedy I think.

Yeah, some people give money for Masses to be said in memory of the dead person. Nothing's free, you know.

CB-I spent around 60 bucks on each arrangement. Like I said, overcharged by death. They weren't big arrangements, either. Yikes.

I just give what I'd spend on flowers. Depending on the closeness of the relationship to the person.

Last year we had a rash of deaths. I hope we go a couple of months this year without one. Florists overcharge the bereaved.
