My husband is diabetic; once he got used to the adjustments in his diet he's kept his blood sugars down pretty good. He's just been having trouble with his feet hurting. Even a ball of lint in his socks make them sore.

My dad went into a diabetic coma when I was about 14...he spent the next 20 years in State Hospitals and group homes due to the brain damage. Also, knowledge of this might have put a damper on the recipe threads. Surely the fraus are up to the challenge of working with Splenda but sugar-substitutes really aren't in the true spirit of the holidays.

During the holiday months you should be able to send a diabetic into sugar-shock by the simple act of just opening the refrigerator door.

Sorry, diabetics and friends of diabetics. I was personally and deeply involved in your plight this month but didn't want to be a Debbie Downer and drag everyone else into the sugary pit of despair along with me.

I did telephone my Dad and nagged him about eating too many leftover Kit Kat bars from Halloween. So I think I did my part.
