I won't give any names, but it would seem they changed something in the rules. According to reports of who has auditioned this year, there are some people who made the late Hollywood rounds (the "chair" episodes) from previous seasons auditioning again. Well, we know one person who won't be auditioning again.

I've never understood why people who get dropped in the early or middle Hollywood rounds can audition again (i.e. Gina Glocksen) but people who fall just short of making the top 24 can't.

Changing the contract to screw top 48ers who don't make it, semi-finalists, and finalists who 19Evil has no intention of signing just in case they MIGHT catch on with somebody else is a sure way of decreasing the talent level of auditioners... especially with so many winners and 2nd...

Well, considering Idol is considering suing him, I'm gonna doubt they'd really let him through . . . and if he has a contract elsewhere, he couldn't audition.

I think people are confused. When you sign the Idol contract, that's an exclusive contract and you're not allowed to sign with any other management company or recording label that's not part of Sony/BMG while you're under it. For the vast majority of Idol contestants (except for the winner and runner-up usually), the contract ends after the tour.

FWIW, they are legally bound to sue him for breach of contract if he indeed did sign while he was still bound to AI....

I don't see why Idol cares to limit what losers from like pre-semis or even losers from the semis do post-Idol, or even like the contestants who didn't make Top 6. It's like a 1 in a bazillion chance that anyone who didn't make the finals is going to find commercial success. If they don't have commercial success leave them alone to do whatever they want indie, it's not like the $100 they pocket selling CDs out of the back of a truck means shit to 19E and co.

If I recall correctly, Chris Sligh from AI6 posted (long before the Josiah story arc even aired on the show) that a new amendment was made in the AI7 contract in that anyone that made Top 48 this time around were severely restricted what they can do post-AI (essentially selling your soul away or in this case, music career, for a shot of guaranteed fame) and he was thanking his lucky stars that he auditioned in his season when the already limiting idol contract was still "lax"...

I am not 100% sure that is true 8track, I was always under the impression the Idol contracts get more and more airtight as the show realizes more about their outcasts and the success they could get. Bucky was season 5, we have no idea what the contract of season 7 is.

The Idol contract everybody signs only runs through the summer, then contestants whose contract idol doesn't pick up (almost everybody not in the top 2) are free to get a deal elsewhere. Bucky Covington got a call the day after he was voted off the show, made a handshake deal, began working on his album, then signed an official deal as soon as he could.
