How about this:

Every week the same people in group sing songs with out result shows and on the 3rd week. Then on the 3rd week, the judges PICK the top 12. BUT the outcome of everyone has to be unanimous.

You people act like a female has no chance on AI. 4 of the 8 winners have been female and 5 of the 8 finales have had at least one girl, (6 if you count Clay). America has no problem voting for GOOD females. The producers just need to do a better job in picking the finalists.

This is what they should do. First of all don't put people that suck and make us want to stab our ears out into the top 24 to begin with.

Top 24 format:

week 1: 12 girls perform, 12 guys perform, 2 people from each group get voted though.
week 2: mix the groups up, 10 perform one night, the remaining 10 perform the next night. 4 more go through
week 3: mix the groups up again, 8 perform each night, the last 4 get through.

That way you have to...

Still, to think the unpimped can't make it through in the Group format, look at Kris Allen. Was "Man in the Mirror" a good-but-not-great performance? Pretty much.

IMO the group format works better for unpimped, super talented performers, like Kris, Allison and even season 1 Kelly Clarkson who step up...

People have made very good points about Felicia having no chance whatever to be in if there was a top 24 (ouch!) and Michael Johns being unique on the show as a traditional hunk type. I will add to that the observation that an amazing number of the guys on the show have been really short. In just the last 3 seasons of the top 2, Archie, Blake and Kris have all been 5'3" or 5'4" Even Bo and Daughtry were only about 5'7." I also want to agree that Kris would have made...

It makes more sense to pick people to be IN the contest each week and have them compete each week against a different group of contestants. Last season, most of the talented singers were in Group 2. If you were in Group 1 or 3, it was...

They did that on CI and we ended up with a 2 girls/ 8 guys top 10 and an all male top 5.
