In that situation, editing the show more as a documentary isn't a big risk, After Survivor became a phenomenon it was added to CBS regular schedule. Also, I don't think from a practical standpoint that we can recapture the olden days of Survivor. The viewership has skewed younger for the last 4 seasons, more emphasis is placed on gameplay rather than survival skills, and they're much more aware that they need to somehow keep viewers to keep the sponsors happy, hence the overpimping of polarizing characters (Randy, Coach, Russell H).
