OK...apparently I am the only person still watching this (and only and I mean ONLY because of the suits, which has taken an upturn as they have started to put Billy Zane in some dapper three-piece numbers...), and sadly for ABC I am not a Neilsen Family.

Unlike the wonderful Eastwick (which started a bit shaky and really started to hit its stride) , which the ABC Douche Machine canceled, this show has shown no improvement at all. As a matter of fact, IT IS CRAP!!! Even Norbert Leo Butz who I have seen onstage in several Broadway shows and I LOVE just comes off badly-the way they write his character is just AWFUL.

Very few shows set in some workplace environment are going to be realistic because real life is boring (with the exception of an ER, a busy fire station etc.) and even shows set in those environments take many creative licenses. The creative people behind the show have to make the show and they failed miserably with this. The enviornment/job type are just details. The right team could make a show about engineers hilarious or compelling drama.

Well, in the first years of Grey's, the residents didn't get to do too much medicine on their own, and yet they managed decent stories. With better writing, they should be able to do the same on this show. Of course you are right about "the right people behind it". That's the problem (that the creative team sucks), here, much more so than with the underlying concept.

Let's face it, the actual work of paper-selling is boring, but "The Office" protects us from that and still creates an entertaining show. Same with MOST workplace television shows. It's all about the writing.

The IDEA here is to do Grey's in a law firm, which means interns or first years. And The Office is a horrible idea, as well. Poor choice of examples. It is a classic example of something that is a bad idea, but made into a brilliant show because the right people are behind it.

They could have either chosen to NOT make them first years, or focus on the experience (the abuse, the comeraderie, etc.) rather than on the cases. First years don't have enough responsibility with regard to cases to do that.

The IDEA is a horrible one. You can't really make a show about first years in law without it being incredibly boring or unrealistic. They chose the latter route.

The cancellation of "Eastwick" had nothing to do with this show. "Deep End" was already in production (first season was probably even wrapped) before a decision was ever made as to the fate of "Eastwick". This show would still have aired, whether or not they had renewed "Eastwick".

Overall, the IDEA here (Grey's Anatomy in a law firm) isn't such a bad one. It's how they're executing it that sucks.
