Debra Byrd has gone on record saying that this week the contestants only have a list of 25 Beatles songs to choose from. The Beatles have hundreds of songs to choose from and they only get to choose from 25 songs. TPTB really are trying to manipulate every single aspect of this competition this season. Not only do they have themes but now even the themes are limited to a small number of song choices. TPTB hate. Maybe the 'weird' "Come Together" will be replaced by "I Saw Her Standing There." That's ridiculous. You knew that there were a few songs we were guaranteed to hear ("Let it Be," "Yesterday," "Hey Jude," etc.) but I was hoping one or two of them might go with an obscure pick. You'd think that since they were trying to do this since, what, season 2, they'd be able/willing to negotiate for something more.

That's not an option according to the interview with Byrd. In the semis they said a guy and a girl could choose the same song but not two people performing on the same night essentially and now for the finals they have to flip a coin or something and decide who gets the song. (You know that's not how it goes down, if a chosen one is in the song conflict they get the song some way). Nigel also comments on the semi-finals themes this year in the interview: I found this funny... NIGEL LYTHGOE: Because I think last year we started on a strange footing, where people were choosing songs that they like, and you can't just choose songs that you like. Of course they can't Nigel, they have to choose whatever song you want them to do depending on their status.

Garrett (who?) from the first week of the semis was forced to sing "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" because his song choices were "picked" by the other contestants already. So yeah, it's been like that since the beginning of the season.
