I'm looking forward to tonight. I did think Helga was not used effectively - after all both contenders got past her.

I loved it. Very reminiscent of the old show but with great (yeah, I liked 'em) production values and "newness." I can't believe my sons both
sat and watched a show with their parents - for two hours yet!

Check out my ACG review of American Gladators by following the link that still may or may not be in my profile.

Fusil Did you ever watch American Gladiators last decade? If you did you completely forgot how radically the eliminator changed when the treadmill moved from the
beginning of the course to the end of the course. That one change basically eliminated the power of having a lead on your competitor.
Papayoke At the nbc forums people were discussing the admission process and basically it was designed to reduce the chances any muscle bound people could participate because of speed requirements. They don't want men and woman as big as the gladiators themselves which would increase the chances of the gladiators getting injured. So even if by some chance you do pass the physical test while being as well built as Scwharzenegger in his glory days they can just make up some reason to not pick you. |

"Injured", huh? The cynic in me says they don't want to see someone run over their precious gladiators. ;-) |

This did really well in the ratings last night. 12.04 million viewers, and it actually went up in viewers during the second half of both episodes. Looks like
this could be a hit show for NBC.
The striking writers need to realize that they can easily be replaced by gladiators and celebrity apprentices, and viewers won't care. |

I had PT today, and I swear every old lady in the place watched this last night. It was pretty damn funny listening to them talk about it.
I also really didn't like the much smaller rings course or the much larger openings for powerball. I'm glad Moli won, but every time they said his name all I could think of was Austin Powers saying "Moley moley moley". AND I WANT MORE HELLGA, DAMN IT!!!!

Thoughts after last night:
They are certainly pimping Wolf, he was by far in the most events...The howl was a little annoying at first, but two hours after the show, me and my nephew were still howling away If Militia was injured, why no replacement Gladiator?? Helga looked like such a big badass, but yet they used her like, what once....maybe she can't swim??..... This show is so homo erotic, the costumes are extremely gay, but no complaints here, just sayin..... And, seriously, I thought Laila Ali was gonna deck the contestant that got her wet, she was about ready to throw down, she had to check herself....... |

The one event that Hellga was in she sucked. I'm sorry, but a woman that large should not allow a tiny bitch to get past. The fist girl didn't even
come in contact with her big ass.
Also - Wolf and Fury seem to be the event whores. Everytime I looked up, they were on my screen. Also 2 - Militia hurt his arm?! How?! He didn't even do anything. I need more info on this please. |

Laila should be the full-time host. There's no need for Hogan.

There's no need for him, but he brings in the wrestling crowd and he's a big name. He's basically the mascot of the show.

The "official" replacement gladiator (Hammer) was not needed since there were other gladiators to finish the event. We probably would not see them
unless a gladiator was injured for the rest of the season and they wanted to keep a stable of 6 at all times. My guess is that it was a slight injury or pull
that probably just needed some ice or stretching since Militia was shown competing later on that show.

The black contestants can't swim. They should put in a watermelon eating contest to even things up. Hellga is all hype at this point. She did one event and got smoked by that one girl. Titan is soooo gay. I remember the gladiators were much better than the contenders on the old show. Like, nobody on the old show managed to complete an event without being pummeled, but last night, quite a few people passed without even a scratch. |

In fairness to the new glads I remember way back in previous seasons that it took the "new glads" a few shows (and even a season) to get their
bearings and feel comfortable with the events. Unfortunately since there are TWELVE (technically 11) new glads it'll take a minute for them to get their
groove. Although I must say that Fury was pretty could in Earthquake.

Kirblar wrote:Hulk sucked, Laila was good overall. Titan...hot, but keep your damn mouth closed! You sound like an idiot!!! And I agree with everyone, the production value was too sped up and fast, but hey, they are marketing to an ADHD world, so while it may suck, it is what works these days! |
