"David Archuleta's impalpable appeal and popularity seem to be enough to distract a listener away from his real vocal skills. While overall his voice is pleasant, it does suffer from some minor flaws in technique, primarily his tone placement. If you listen closely as he sings, you will hear that his voice tends to slip back into his throat quite frequently, particularly in his upper range. While he doesn't quite produce the pronounced "Kermit the Frog" sound that is more typical of "throaty" singers, his tone is generally off just enough to irritate a singer or listener who knows and appreciates good technique and tone production.

The problems with placing his voice's tone so far back are primarily twofold. First, there is always the risk of causing damage to his voice should David's singing career become very demanding (e.g. with regular performances and long recording sessions) down the road. Second, his vocal range will likely continue to be limited so long as his placement remains incorrect."
