But it kinda reminded me of those shetland pony rides at carnivals where the ponies are attached to bars.

I don't agree Scree, It looked just like I thought a donkey wheel looks like. Except instead of a solid column in the center there's usually a wheel
shaped rock that grinds corn or something as a donkey walks in circles attached to one of the prongy thingies.
I bought it anyway. But it kinda reminded me of those shetland pony rides at carnivals where the ponies are attached to bars. |

Did all of you go to the bathroom when Locke was watching the film?
The earth is moving and if the island just does a Time Jump it changes its position on the Earth because of that rotation, the island doesn't really physically "travel" |

My husband thinks your all wet...
Someone help me here, my hubby is now taking to showing me that time travel would not make the island actually move... |

I think what he's saying is that when you turn the donkey wheel, the island becomes stationary with respect to the center of the Earth, and the
planet's rotation causes it to zip away. Which would be wrong on a number of different levels, so hopefully I misunderstood him.

Someone had to..thats why we saw a polar bear in the desert like Ben was popped to... And it cant be Ben and the others who did it after Dharma was eradicated, because if that were true, there would already be a blasted hole in the wall to get into the cave already...had to have been done by Dharma before covering it with a wall, no? |

Which explains why Kate is the most stubborn at the end, because its much easier to dismiss the calling of ghosts as just a dream...whereas its been much harder for Jack, and of course Hurly, to dismiss it. I wonder who Sun sees, and how? |

I think its better to have the Island exhibit its miraculous wonder through the ancient technology (donkey wheel down in the earth...heiroglyph caverns leading to smoke monsters controls...etc)...than if Ben had pressed a button yo make the island pop somewhere else, dont you? Which means the frozen donkey wheel is really a perfect mechanism Lost lore. We are supposed to learn much more about the Islands history next season, maybe you'll understand it better then? And how could you groan at Ben's expression! It was almost heartbreaking as he moved the wheel...knowing he was losing his place as the leader and that he'd be kicked off the island...it wasnt a "think i can!" expression at all. |

phantom - I don't think the polar bears had anything to do with the frozen donkey wheel. I think Dharma was doing experiments back in the 60s-70s &
brought the bears to the island from remote stations in polar areas (via that chamber in the room at The Orchid). (Thus the cages on Hydra.)
Dharma had no idea of the existance of the donkey wheel. They built The Orchid near it because that particular place held "mystical powers". But Ben knew it was there (he knows everything it seems) & he knew all it would take to get to it would be a blast through the mountain. There was obviously no other way to access it & no way to get a bear down to it. And besides, why would you want a polar bear to turn something that can be done by manpower? Why keep it turning continuously? There is no need for that. Just a few cranks gets the desired results.

The way i see it is...lets say you could time travel your car by turning the steering wheel one full turn. YOu are standing on the street while im in the car turning the wheel. When the car goes back in time, you see it disappear...right? Even though the car stays in the same physical street you see it disappear cause its back in time. The same thing with the island. Now, if the popped the car back in time to the same street 20 years before...and never move the car physically...as soon as i turn the wheel, you wouldnt see the car disappear, youd just see it suddenly 20 years older...right? Which means, the island has never really been in the present...since its inception its always been behind or in front of the present. UNTIL recently because of the whole not pushing the button thing, right? |

Assuming the car never moves, then you'd have a paradox because the car would be infinitely aging by 20 years.

lol exactly my point :P
So Darlton and Cuse, in their clever way, have made you LOVE the concept of time travel as a story device...despite your previous biases against it. :P |
