As soon as the movie started, you could literally hear people eating popcorn. I went in with such high expectations and usually you get disappointed with expectations set so high, but definitely not for this movie at all. Every single person in this movie was amazing. I agree with mole in that if Maggie was given more she would have been so much better. Spoiler [+] I was SHOCKED to see her die though. Was not expecting that at all. I was also pissed that Dent died. I felt like he was hardly around to get that true Batman-like villain vibe. My friend brought up a good point though that a whole movie based off of Two-Face would have been tough to do. I wonder if they will do another. :lol

She's just not a compelling character. Maggie Gyllenhaal was a much better actress, but I thought she looked a little too old for the part and had no chemistry with Christian Bale.

Ledger was great - the story was just so-so, everyone was just distracted by all of the exploding things and didn't notice all of the inconsistencies, cliches, and outright dumbness going around. The car blowing up? The whiskey being poisoned? Who didn't see those coming? The ferry scene - again, totally obvious. And the Batman voice sucks. I loved Batman Begins - this is about a C+.

Our audience broke out in spontaneous applause 4 times and applauded again when it was over and even again when Ledger's name came onscreen. Spoiler [+] And as for Two-Face dying, I, too was disappointed. But he was a minor character in the overall mythology so it wasn't really surprising, except that most of the time, to my recollection, the villains in Batman never died. They went to prison so they could escape and be caught again. And the rumors I've heard are that they're negotiating with Philip Seymour Hoffman to play Penguin in the next. Bale has said he's in as long as Christopher Nolan directs.

Ledger stood out because he had the best character to play -- actors always want to play the insane guy. It will be interesting to see if we finally get a superhero movie nominated for an Academy Award.

But, it just goes to show that Rachel was the weakest character of the two movies. And we can speculate all we want about the third movie, but I'm just not sure they could pick any other Batman villain and not make it too cartoon-y.
