25. Linoone (Normal)

Take everything that I said about Zigzagoon and make it sleeker and more streamlined. VIOLA! You've got yourself Linoone. Granted, Linoone is am extremely boring Pokemon in its own right, but like Zigzagoon, it has the ability to gain you early game Rare Candies and Ultra Balls (at least in Ruby and Sapphire, not in Emerald.) But yeah, Linoone is just physically better than Zigzagoon, and Zigzagoon ranked relatively high, so Linoone had to rank higher.


24. Swampert (Water/Ground)

Swampert is certainly a good Pokemon in competitive battles. It's certainly better than basically EVERY other Water/Ground-type ever designed. Swampert in this game is awesome, because he's basically great against every gym leader with the sole exception of Wallace. And honestly, that's all I have to say. Swampert is a great Pokemon, but I always choose Torchic, so I just don't have the information to do Swampert justice.


23. Shroomish (Grass)

Who would've thought that a little mushroom Pokemon could actually be cute, especially after how pathetic and ugly Paras and Parasect were in RBY. For an early game Pokemon, especially an early game GRASS Pokemon, Shroomish does a great job. He's got decent attacks and a special ability that can paralyze or poison a foe on contact. Add to that the fact that Shroomish evolves into an even cooler Pokemon that has yet to appear on the list, and you've got yourself a pretty kickass little Pokemon.


22. Cacnea (Grass)

I've gotta say that although I hated the desert portion of the game (second worst area after the countless water portions of the map), Cacnea was awesome. Cactuses are some of my favorite plants, mainly because of just how unique they are, with the needles and the waxy skin and everything. And Cacnea was great in the anime, picking up where Victreebel left off and hurting James every time he came out of his ball. Cacnea, like Shroomish, also has a badass evolution that has yet to appear, which explains the high placement on the list.


21. Grovyle (Grass)

Wow, this is the first time the Grass starter line has been completely eliminated before the top ten thus far. Honestly, there was nothing all that great about Treecko and its family, aside from the fact that it's the only Grass starter to walk upright, thus allowing him to use moves like Leaf Blade (which kicks ass). Grovyle outranks his brothers because Treecko is ugly and weird and Sceptile is even uglier and weirder, yet somehow, Grovyle didn't look half bad.
