Anyways, he had some black woman from Detroit on air along with two white dudes who seemed hell bent on assasinating Obama, and they were all running their mouthes about the only thing talking heads talk about these days--and no, I don't mean whatever the latest natural disaster happens to be. I mean McCain and Obama.
The white dudes were saying something about how Obama was a sinner who should be condemned and ridiculed and forced to wear a scarlet A for suggesting that we should pull out of Iraq sometime in the next 2 years, while the black woman was saying something that on the internet would be read like this: ummmm wtf?!?! plz dont send mah black homies 2 war k thx bi.
In saying this, the black woman mentioned how we couldn't possibly know if the surge had worked until some months from now...and then the two white dudes got their panties in a bunch, started yelling, and then Lou Dobbs broke it up and said something to the effect of this:
"Okay guys, stop for a minute...listen. I know we all have our opinions on things, but the fact of the matter is that the surge was a success. There is absolutely no denying this. Things are better in Iraq now, and the surge created the opportunity for Sunnis and Shiites to come together and have anal sex."
And this is where my question comes in...and I assume if you're actually still reading all this that you give a damn enough to really respond to this post in a serious manner. When did the surge become a success? When has there been any evidence that the surge did a damn thing in Iraq? I was off camping for almost 2 months, so I feel like I might have missed something...but when more troops entered Iraq, did al-qaeda/the shiites and sunni/whoever the fuck was blowing stuff up at that particular moment just spontaneously decide to stop and go have a party?
What ACTUALLY happened in Iraq, and how did the surge ACTUALLY play a role in the politics of Iraq?
I would love to just take Lou Dobbs's word, but unfortunately I have an IQ above 80 and therefore have a tendency to prefer thinking for myself. But I don't even know where to begin looking stuff up on the internet in regards to the surge, because all I can find is more bullshit from conservatives telling me how the surge succeeded and more bullshit from liberals telling me how McCain wants to turn Iraq into another Vietnam so he can be a POW again or some fucked up bullshit like that.
Any serious, legit answers that are backed with RELIABLE links will be greatly appreciated. k thx bi.
P.S. The reason I'm not putting this in the politics thread is because I don't think Iraq and the surge should be thought of as political issues--WAR is not something for politicians to deal with. Or Lou Dobbs, for that matter. And by the way, did I ever mention how much I hate Lou Dobbs?
