Can't tell you the number of diagnoses versus prescriptions written but in 2005, psychiatrists wrote 29.2% of the antidepressant prescriptions written during outpatient and office based visits where a medical doctor spoke with the patient, the highest of all medical specialties writing such prescriptions.

The bad news is that general practice (22.6%), family practice (20.5%), and internal medicine (10.0%) doctors wrote a combined 53.1% of the remaining AD scripts.

These four specialties are the top four and account for 82.3 % of all AD prescriptions written under these conditions.
