You get my back, and I'll get yours Tres. Together, we will destroy the caffeine DEMON...right after my headache passes.

I quit drinking soda on a daily basis about 5 years or so ago. No real reason other than cost. Water is essentially free (I drink tap water). Now I have
like 3 or 4 cups of coffee in the morning and then it's water the rest of the day. On rare occasion I may have a root beer, but that's it. I used to
drink 4 or 5 Diet Cokes a day. I haven't noticed any real difference and I don't have a large savings account because I'm not buying soda. I just
don't drink it anymore.

I totally support you, Tres. We weren't allowed soda as kids either. As an adult, I went hogwild slurping the stuff down. Only I prefer non-diet Pepsi or
Dr. Pepper. In my 20s I started having bladder trouble, and the urologist gave me a list of foods and beverages to avoid. It turns out that the brown sodas
(along with tea, coffee, alcohol and orange juice) are really hard on the bladder.
So, I support you, and your bladder thanks you. Good luck with the headaches. |

Soda is the ONLY unhealthy thing that I've been consuming on a daily basis for about the past 18 months. (ie NO Junkfood - chips, cookies, candy...nothing like that) I think it was affecting my skin...so I fucking quit. |

I love my Diet Coke. I do not like real coke. As for the artificial sweeteners, I'm diabetic and can't take the sugar. I used to drink five pots of
coffee a day. Five diet cokes and one pot of coffee are my compromise.

I gave up Diet Coke and all soda in March. I did crave it for a while but it passed. I drink lots of water instead and about 2 cups of coffee per day with
Stevia. Stevia is a natural no calorie, no carb sweetner.

I subscribe to Jillian Michael's (biggest loser) emails. Got this one today:
Soda Quota Regular soda is definitely out because it a major calorie overload - but guess what, I don't want you drinking diet soda either! I'm a former diet soda addict myself, and believe me, it almost killed me to get off that junk. After I stopped drinking it every day, though, I could definitely feel the difference being off those chemicals! As I've grown in the health and wellness realm, I've become very passionate about being natural and organic with what I'm putting into my body. While the FDA still doesn't ban these products, I could go on and on about research I've found about aspartame (the sweetener in Diet Coke). The main thing I want you to do is try your best to limit your exposure to it. If strictly water (the best option!) is out of the question, drink unsweetened ice tea or coffee - both have zero calories. If you need to sweeten your coffee or tea, xylitol and stevia are better, more natural options than sucralose (Splenda). Xylitol is a naturally occurring sweetener that's extracted from the fibers of certain fruits and vegetables, and stevia comes from a South American plant. I personally use xylitol all the time, usually one packet at a time in my coffee or tea. It's nontoxic, but since it's a sugar alcohol, you could have digestive issues if you use a lot of it. I've never had a problem. You've hit your soda quota - now's the time to look for alternatives to rid you of your soda addiction!

Tres Gay wrote: I get it at a local health food supermarket. Some grocery stores sell it in the organic sections. It's more expensive than Splenda but I think the health benefits outweigh the price. About $9.99 for 100 packettes. |

I cannot quit the soda! I have tried, sure I've gone a month or two even three once. Once. I cannot stand the tatse of diet, I have been drinking soda
since I was very young. My mama used to only allow me one a day because she knew I would drink it 24/7. Ever since I can remember I haved craved good ole
carmel, caffeinated soda. First when I was a kid it was Dr. Pepper, then in my young adult years it was Coca-Cola and now it's been Pepsi for like 10
years. I have given up trying to quit. I wake up in the morning and go straight to the fridge for my shot of Pepsi and even after all these years (i am 39 now)
I still love, love, love that first sip of soda in the morning. It is my sweet, sweet friend.

I never liked coffee, but I drank two 20-oz sodas (sweetened with corn syrup) daily for over a decade. About 4 years ago, I gave up soda cold turkey (except
for the weekends), and I suffered headaches for only the first day or two. Because I drank the non-diet stuff, this meant that I was also going through sugar
withdrawal at the same time, which caused intense feelings of depression and despair. This lasted about a whole week.
Now I drink nothing but water during the week. I'll have a couple of sodas over the weekend. Once you get used to water, you will grow to love it, and every other beverage will be too sweet or too strong. It will take about a month or two. Don't latch onto coffee or tea as a substitute crutch. Drink the liquid that nature designed for your body. |

I'm trying to give up sweets (I have a huuuuge sweet tooth) and I had to smack a bitch up at McDonalds yesterday when they gave me sweet tea after I
specifically ordered unsweetened.

Don't drink coffee, soda, or any sweetened drinks (save for iced tea). And I don't eat salty foods either, or at least try to minimize it.

I use real sugar in moderation. I never drink soda, it is so full corn syrup like almost every processed food item. Even the bottled green teas are full of corn syrup. |

I use NOW brand stevia. I buy it in the grocery store, but they stock it by the vitamins rather than by other sweeteners. So if you can't find stevia by
the sugar, check near the vitamins and supplements.

Stevia is an herb and the exact opposite of fake sugar like aspartame and splenda. It's very healthy, no calories, organic, and very sweet. Sweeter than
sugar, actually, which is why they recommend you use less of it. The taste is a bit different than sugar but I still enjoy it.
When I was a kid, it wasn't so much that we weren't allowed to drink pop, my parents just didn't keep it around the house much. It was looked at like a treat -- you could have some when we made popcorn and watched movies or on 'pizza night', for example, but it wasn't something we could have any time we wanted a cold drink.I grew up the same way but instead, I learned to love having Pepsi every day. I had to will myself to only have it a couple to few times per week. |
