For the first three or four weeks, Memphis seemed very wary of Dan and Dan was trying to chip his way into the mammoth KOLAR group. Then when they splintered, Memphis and Dan seemed to be drawn together because they were a natural counterpart to Renny/Keesha. There were some times I thought they were going to split, like when Memphis joined with Jerry and hesitated about saving Dan with veto, but they stuck it out. I think Keesha and Renny became too emotionally attached, whereas Dan and Memphis were more businesslike. That's what gets you through the game, planning as much as you can and hoping for some pure luck, like M/D not being nommed together at F5 and Memphis winning POV.
I think Memphis realized Dan was the one he wanted to face at F2. He may have wanted Keesha, but he sensed Keesha wouldn't take him. Dan probably would have thought about throwing F3 HOH and having Keesha or Memphis take him, but if he had to make the choice I think he still would have gone with Memphis.
After Memphis saved Dan I knew they'd stick together, although I wasn't sure they'd actually get to F2. They've played a fantastic game these past few weeks, one of the best end games I've seen on BB. I do wonder whether they'll stay friends outside of the house. I think they make a good team, so I hope they do, but you never know whether any of these people will see each other again. They seem to have gotten a lot closer the past few weeks. Probably the first time I can remember two people becoming much closer after one has repeatedly nominated the other.
