I'm watching a repeat broadcast of an old friend's political debate show from last night. On it was Eric Lowther - a former Calgary Reform and Canadian
Alliance MP - he said it would be legitimate to have a ballot initiative if enough people wanted to re-examine allowing interracial marriage.
Yep, it is a small wonder why so many Canadians question the marriage of intellectual conservatism and redneck idjits. When Harper steps down or is removed, the party is prolly gonna have one of these idjits take over, and set conservatives back to the 1990s as the third place party. Anyone here want to wonder why people like me don't see a future stomaching the Conservatives retard base? |

I'm surprised it took you this long.
That is one of the major reasons Harper has never (and will never) get a majority in this country. |

Harper has never been about the social retard aspect, neither are 75% of those in the party or who vote for the party.
I see them the same way I see the Greens and the far left activists in the NDP, extremely dangerous. Both use a cultish belief system to cloud all policies. Greens and the thought police in the NDP are religious groups without a religion tax exempt number. |

Jakob is working hard to make the transfer complete. A month ago he was gung ho Harper kitten Conservative. Now he's pulling wingnuts out to justify his
opportunist conversion, and some constituents are already eating it up. *coughbluesboicough*

don't be a hater Vicc.
Do you not see it as more than likely that a Stockwell Day type will succeed Stephen? The Western wingnuts (I would say half of the Alberta and Northern BC MPs and rural Ontario purple kool aid drinkers) will demand a socially right leader. Maybe even a zero personality bore, like Flaherty, who will kill the momentum the party gained. I don't see a future with that. There is no heir to the leadership, and the leadership pool is particularly weak. I know many of the people from my activist days in the Unite The Right movement. Harper just brought in two old friends of mine into the PMO. I have 4 people in the top 10 staffers to the PM that I can email and likely get a response by days end, Kory Teneycke being the latest, none have an original thought or is all that original. Some of the more sophisticated young PC Youth thinkers from the 1990s that I was friends with are noticeably absent. None other than maybe Tasha Kheiriddin feel all that comfortable with the Conservatives. It is a real, problem, more so in Ontario, Montreal and the Maritimes. |

I still support Harper over Dion, and happily voted that way. I won't vote for a Rae led party either. Sometimes you have to hold your nose and work within
the bloated corpse to enact fundamental change.
I still believe more conservative friendly policies can be implemented by a right thinking led Liberal government than by a Conservative government. Look at rural liberals support of gun ownership and split on certain issues like gay marriage. It is a fairly big tent party. |

When Harper eventually steps aside, most Conservatives will like the taste of power and will pick someone that would be playable in Ontario and/or Quebec. A
majority is the next step. They can't do that with social conservatives and they know it.
