I love that cartoon, Darius! Justice is served! I never like that smuggish little mouse skank bitch Jerry. All he ever does is torturing Tom for fun. And this is from a person who hates cats in real life :P

Go ahead and threadjack. It draws attention away from the fact that I am bad at updating this consistently :D.
Oh, and I have decided that the #17 spot will be a tie, but no one has guessed either show (nor do I think that anyone will). They are both kids shows though. |

Is it gonna be something like Sesame Street? Besides Nickelodeon cartoons, I think the only other shows I watched as a kid were like Pokemon...

As I mentioned to you all earlier, #17 is a tie. Here is the first half. The other should
be up very soon.
Sorry for the wait. Ive had to write 25 pages of essay over the last week. I have about
10 more to do, so the updates should start to become a little more frequent in the near future.
17a. Rugrats
In many ways, this show was a children's version of the Ed Sullivan show for the 90's... EVERYONE watched it. This was one of my favorite shows ever as a kid, but in no way was I unique because I was just like every other kid between the age of 6 and 10. In fact, I remember having frequent discussions on the bus to school about last night's episode of Rugrats, and it wouldn't be uncommon for the subject to spread through to every kid on that bus. This show was like kiddy crack. Rugrats was about the adventures of four babies and a bratty little toddler. The story was told from the eyes of the babies and we got to see their perspective on the world. Tommy, Chucky, Phil, Lil, and Angelica were all hilarious and surprisingly well done characters for a kids show (especially Tommy and Chucky). Later on, other babies were added, but I never really watched at the time when they were on the show. The parents of the kids were also pretty prominent figures in the show, and by far the coolest was Stu, Tommy's dad. Also, Tommy's family had goofy a dog named Spike which I came to love. Just writing about this show makes me feel a little nostalgic. BUT, that is not the only reason why this show made the list. I actually watched an online episode earlier this week to make sure that I wasn't remembering things inaccurately, and the show was actually high quality. It is the type of show that I recognize is not aimed at me, but that I still find funny. If I was a parent I would have loved for my kids to watch this show because it had good moral messages while also being funny enough for me to enjoy at least somewhat. The mindset of the babies was actually about that of an 6 or 7 year old, but they still liked to do what babies do, which was pretty cool. The writers were able to write in a manner that was really relevant to kids. While this seems obvious, what I mean is that writers actually had the psychology of kids down pat. In the episode I watched yesterday Phil and Lil talk about 'taker-backers' to Tommy, and this was the kind of concept that would speak to me as a kid. The animation style was pretty cool. It was a well drawn show and the characters all looked really goofy (especially Dede's hair). But even better than its animation was its soundtrack . . . more specifically the theme song. It was just perfect and conveyed the style of the show really well. They were also one of the first shows I remembered watching to pull off the double 10 minute episodes. The show was tremendously successful. I didn't realize when I started writing this, but the show lasted 13 seasons! Also, it was made into a few movies. And I was looking at wikipedia, it was made into a bunch of video games. It even won day-time emmys, and was nominated for a real one, among many other awards. So overall, I don't tend to rate kids shows very high, but this show rates higher than it normally would have if it wasn't a kids show because it was able to connect to kids, had great animation, awesome music, and a unique sense of humour, and transcended the conventional kids show. Also, this show also made me feel special as a kid because I shard a name with the main character. |

Have you seen the spin-off called "All Grown Up" it was a tank, IMO. But Rugrats was such a good show. I miss it! I always still love how they focused on all races/holidays, they had Christmas, Hanukkah and even Kwanzaa. What a good show! |

I'm pretty sure I'll receive shit for this one, but . . 17b. Recess
Recess is a show about a group of six fourth graders and their adventures on the elementary school playground. It is 100% oriented towards kids (in contrast to the Powerpuff Girls, which had occasional elements that only adults would pick up on), but to be fair, I still find it pretty funny I still see it on when I work and it is basically the only show from my childhood that I will actively sit down and watch when I come across it. In fact, when it doescome on at work, I find myself thoroughly distracted from my serving tables. It was really from a different era of my life than Rugrats was, so I decided to just give them a tie. As I mentioned earlier, the show is about six friends, but each is very different (and fits a particular stereotype). TJ is the leader/cool kid, Vince was the jock, Spinelli was the tomboy, Gretchen was the brain, Mikey was the sensitive fatty, and Gus was the wimp (though that does him no justice). The six characters were all really different, but were really tight knit friends. The show was mostly about how they spent their daily recesses (duh). The coolest aspect of the show was the way that the playground was set up. It was modeled like a kingdom in fact there actually was a character named King Bob (a mighty sixth grader). There were a huge amount of secondary characters, ranging from the Diggers (guys who spend all their recess digging holes), the Ashleys (a clique of bitchy girls), the kindergarteners (who are portrayed as a crazy prehistoric tribe). There were also other noteworthy people such as the Upside Down girl, Swinger Girl, Randall the tattle tale, and probably at least 15-20 others that were somewhat recognizable. The teachers were also quote funny, and often were the butt of the jokes. Principle Prickley and Miriam Finster were the mean authority figures that were constantly outwitted by the gang (especially TJ). All the more likable adults in the show let their inner-child come out from time to time. The overall message of the show was to let kids be kids. The plot of the shows (which were also set up in the dual 10 minute episode format) were really relevant to things I remember from my child hood. They ranged from being the only one to have not seen a movie out of all of your friends, to dealing with the dilemma of being a cool kid and finding out you have a geeky older brother/sister, to having a first crush etc. The messages that it sends out for kids are actually quite solid. They were almost always about embracing differences and playing nice. And it is probably one of the first Disney related programs that had strong female characters. Again, it had good animation and sound, but nothing too groundbreaking. It wasn't as successful as Rugrats, but it still achieved some recognition for its amazingness. This show (and Rugrats for that matter) do not end up higher on the list because they are kids shows, so there is a limited amount of depth that they are able to achieve. I just can't justify putting them above some of the masterpieces located above it. They were definitely the best kids shows I remember watching though. |

How could I forget these shows??? I was in love with Rugrats as a kid and the two movies I dragged my parents to wait in line for were the Pokemon movie and

I don't think the placing of Recess was a bad one Darius. I actually loved that show. I still watch it whenever I get the chance. It just doesn't come
on as much anymore unless you want to wait up until 2 in the morning to watch it on Disney.

Where I live it comes on at 11:50 on family channel (which is basically Disney). Unfortunately that often coincides with the Golden Griddle lunch rush :/
But I usually get to see bits and pieces. |
