I think though they definitely avoided cliffhanger territory and since seasons 4 & 5 are signed up it allowed them to essentially spend the finale wrapping things up and planting the seeds for next season. I'm sure if anything comes of the Skinner cutting Dex it will be brief and guess who will be the blood analyst asked to look into it. Still, the prospects of Demented Daddy Dexter are interesting, along with Deb looking into Harry's past and LaGuertta having taken the Morgans on, one as confidant and the other as a foul-mouthed gal pal. Vince had some good growth this season, Deb's a detective with a boyfriend (who will make it to next year) and if they want to they can always dig into Quinn's character more. Really good work this season by Smits and Carpenter, and that guy who played the gay brother on Six Feet Under.

I had completely forgotten about her. I'd assume that storyline is over and done with and was just planted for us to doubt Quinn. I think next season is going to revolve around Deborah's continued look into her dad's past which leads to the revelation about Dexter. So I definitely think she'll find out next year. As for the big storyline? Only time will tell, but I have complete faith in the people who make this show. Something I really don't have with any other.

Especially since so much time was wasted on the uber boring deb/ci storyline. I wish that dude would take his guitar and go away. If I had to rank the seasons, it would be in number order. 1. Ice Truck Killer was the best, and as implausible as this show clearly is, it was the most plausible season by far. 2.Crazy hot girlfriend + Doaks storyline trumped the growing importantance of Rita. The same Rita btw that I hope we find out murdered her first hubby now fitting into the code for Dex to kill her. Besides, him as single dad to 3 would bring even more humor to the show. 3. Just cause I ranked it 3, doesn't mean it was great. Smits did an amazing job with his character, but the season still ranks behind 1 & 2 imo.

Deb isn't going to turn in Dex, and Dexter will never kill Deb, so the only way this storyline ends is with Deb agreeing to keep Dex's secret. The writers are so afraid to make Dexter unlikeable in any way, that it leads to predictable resolutions to many of the storylines. Still a great show, but if it wants to be in the same echelon as shows like The Wire and The Sopranos, they need to take more chances and stop playing it so safe.

The killing of the skinner bugged me because the skinner walked away to get his tools, leaving Dexter to work his way out of his restraints. That was stupid. The skinner would have had his tools with him. Instead he went through the trouble of tying Dexter down to the table and then sat there and waited for him to wake up. Then they talked, and then he's all "...after I get my tools." or whatever and walks away??? And a bleeding Dexter sneaks out of a window sight unseen? And without a vehicle, too. How did he get home in time to make it to the wedding? Lame.

He was hoping to toy with Dexter is my guess, for as long as possible. And if all the police are distracted by the skinner falling to his death, Dexter being able to sneak away isn't implausible. Also, they didn't say what time the wedding was in relation to when Dexter escaped. I loved the second half of this season. It took awhile to get going.

I don't think anything could top season 1 for me. It was just so fresh and utterly gripping yet simplistic and well thought out.

I think the finale was very rushed and it almost jumped teh shark when Dexter became a super hero and had hand on hand combat with the skinner... I thought Dexter was supposed to be nerdy. =/

The skinner was a torturer, so he saw no need to off Dexter immediately. Drawing out the moment for the victim is kind of his thing, so leaving to get his tools just seems like a part of that. As for Dexter and the hand-to-hand combat, there was a scene last season where Doaks was doing research on Dexter and wanted to know what a forensics expert would need with Jujitsu training or something like that, so clearly Dexter has experience with fighting.

Good finale, and I'm glad the showrunners don't need to have everything end in a cliffhanger. Season 2 was wrapped up even tighter.
