Yeah, I remember when they did a countdown of the best Survivor moments on the America's Tribal Council special in All-Stars. Not a single one was a
moment from a challenge. In fact, most weren't even game-related. They were just fights and events (like Mike falling into the fire) that would have
happened even if they had just been on an island for 39 days without playing a game at all.

Here's what they should do if they want to make Survivor fair. First, remove the pre-made tribes and just make one big tribe. Then, get rid of the
challenges altogether because so long as there's challenges, SOMEONE is going to be at a disadvantage solely because of their physical abilities (weak
players are more likely to be targetted in tribal portions, strong players are more likely to be targetted in individual portions). So by getting rid of the
challenges altogether, you get to see the social interactions and fights like on Big Brother, only while the castaways are living in the wilderness. And the
best part is that unlike your system, strong players still have benefits to being kept around because without reward challenges, the best survivalists are
going to be able to help the collective group subsist and thus are valuable to keep around. My system is fair to everyone and gives everyone the same 1/16 (or
18, 19 or 20) chance of being voted out.

The only way challenges would be fair is if, as I've said, you put only one challenge in the game and just repeat that challenge over and over and over again until the end of the game, like they do in sports. And Survivor is not a sporting event. It's got more than just that aspect. That's why removing the challenges is the only way to make the game fair, as you say. That eliminates the target anyone might have on their back for being too strong, or the lack of a target they might have for being too weak. EVERYONE is equally likely to be voted out with no challenges, as opposed to your system where the most competitive players are most likely to be voted out early. |
