By the way, anyone see Man on Wire?...This movie is one of the highest rated and expected to take the documentary award. Is it worth the viewing?? I downloaded it and forgot it would be full of subtitles and can't figure out how to add them..damn.
So, going into it I had impossible expectations.
In the end, I found it worth watching, but I was underwhelmed really. There is a particular device in the film, that I somewhat liked at first... but after a while I just found it pretentious and annoying. You'll know what I mean.
But yeah, see it. I had never heard of the event itself and it really is amazing.
I've seen everything this year (130+ films at last pathetic count), and I felt the same way about Man on Wire. Good, but didn't blow me away (although....I literally had a pit in my stomach when they showed the pics of him lying down on the rope between the towers.)
Dear Zachary and Trouble the Water are both better documentaries.
However.....WHEN "Man on Wire" wins the Oscar, I still will be pleased, because it is a departure from Holocaust/Iraq/Bullshit documentaries that they have always favored in recent memory. It will be a nice and different choice.
