I was into the game show craze of '99/'00, and in this little booklet on games they briefly mentioned Survivor and I was intrigued. When the commercials aired, I was further interested. I don't know whether or not Survivor or the British show "Castaway 2000" came first(I think it was the latter), but I watched both and became an instant fan. I was rooting for Rudy the entire season and threw a big fit when he lost because I wasn't even aware of the nature of the game. The idea of whether alliances were morally objectionable or not never crossed my mind, it just made common sense to me, and I was actually very neutral on Richard for the entire season. I hated Kelly for her wishy washiness, and did a little dance when Rich won. I liked the Outback very much but wasn't as enraptured as I was with the first season, but I'm talking about a serious dedication to the show so by any account you would of called me a big fan of Australia. By Africa I was interested in the strategic aspect of the show, but a clear sighted understanding of it didn't ferment, and I considered Lex to be a great player(ugh!). I enjoyed Africa a lot more then Australia, and I couldn't understand why it wasn't as popular(September 11th, which I suppose I was too self centered to grasp the significance of) as the first two.

Fast forward to now, and I would say that the show has had a big impact on me. Now I notice how heavy handed the editing is, and I am aware of the many flaws the show has, but I love it, warts and all. I defend it at every opportunity as a really good piece of entertainment, and a very interesting model of human behavior.
