I just watched the local news and all the clamor is over Sammy boy lying about the relationship and asking the 18 year old to lie about it, too. Even though Sammy boy didn't have much difficulty winning (he garnered over 50 percent of all votes in the primary, so the City charter doesn't require a second vote during the Nov. elections), this could have sunk his chances of winning. He's a bit short in the charisma department -- sort of a young Jerry Brown when it comes to his ideals and dedication to be an environmentalist.

As far as I can tell, the media is not talking about the cradle-robber angle of this story. It seems like the media would be all over this kind of age difference if it were a middle aged man and 18 year old woman. In the end, this is Portland's first gay mayor, so I think he'll get a few nasty glances and it will be all over in 6 months. People still say nice things about former Governor Goldschmidt even after he admitted to screwing his underage babysitter 30 years ago (but disclosed after he left office).
