I lurk here some and rarely post, but the Smokin Nun's remarks about Mother Tereasa made me want to come out and set some of the record straight. As an athiest, Mother Tereasa holds no particular fascination for me, but the story being propagated here about Mother Tereasa is a well documented bunch of lies and half truths.

Chrisotpher Hitchens started out life as a thoughtful intellectual, a huge liberal and a respected journalist at The Nation for many years. When 9-11 happened, he did a 360 and became an outspoken proponent of the bush* administration and a stalward supporter for the war against Iraq. In fact, Hitchen's supported war on all muslims, and vocalized his super right wing opinions on every talk show and newpaper column he could. He even became best buds with Anne Coulter and traveled the US spewing his hatred on college campuses all over the country. In fact, he even became the darling of FOX News and was touted as their pet liberal who saw the light and turned to the right. He was one of Sean Hannity's most favored guests for a couple of years.

He is a well known chronic alcoholic and has written several incoherent, rambling books concerning his fervent, anti muslim views. Several of his concerned friends, including Katrina Van Heuvel, have come out over the past few years and expressed deep concern about his mental health and downward spiral into what has been described as the last stages of chronic alchoholism. . Hitchen's, who by his own account, had always been a devout athiest, claimed he had an epiphnany and found a deep spiritual awakening after 9-11. It was during this time he became obsessed with the Catholic church, and more pointedly, Mother Tereasa.

I would take what this sad, troubled man has to say with a grain of salt.
