Posts: 8998 (02/28/09 10:14 AM) Registered User Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I have to find a way to get the first part of the first episode where all the juicy answers always are (damn fool of me with those recordable dvds)- all I remember are the Erinnnn and Tyson bit and the Sierra and Coach bit. I know my stuff enough to know both will be coming back and crucial moments in the story. Take note of the Exhile alliance building scene and if Taj's question about trusting Sierra had to make the cut. Always remember when a character is brought into a scene when they aren't even there. The best example is Alex in the Amazon telling us in a confessional -"Who is Jenna? We don't really know who Jenna is." Sierra's "million dollar" sound byte really wasn't that good or witty to make the final cut of an episode to add character color. So, I take that as a huge sign of manipulating the winner. Tyson I would keep in contention because he's been built up complexly- observed from others and from his own point of view. It's certainly negative -but Brian H was as well (women in the kitchen bit was pretty strong). If I had to place a bet though, I'd still lean to him getting power hungry and blindsided down the line.

At Tribal council the elimination of Jerry was, apparentely, an edited blindside (everybody, apparentely, knew Jerry was going home, including Jerry), so I don't know if it would be shown if Tyson is our winner. That's the reason he's not a top contender in my list.

Sierra and Stephen are my top two.

I think Coach is going to be booted sometime around the early to mid-merge and, in order to have someone charismatic to focus on, they will have built up Tyson to take over. If Tyson wasn't built up, then when Coach leaves, we'll need someone else to hate. There's a difference between top contenders, possible contenders, not eliminated, and eliminated by default. Compare to the presidential elections: Top contenders: main party leaders (Barack and McCain, but Hilary and Rudy were early top contenders-these can change with time, but as we get closer to the conventions, it's pretty much set in stone who these people are) Contenders: people still in the race and doing well, but it doesn't look so good unless something interesting happens (Clinton, Huckabee, but Barack was in that status before his surge in the primaries-these are subject to change up to a certain point) Not eliminated: people who will not leave the race but realistically don't have a real chance UNLESS something crazy happens with the contenders and top contenders (Ron Paul, Ralph Nader) Eliminated by default: people who are running in parties such as the Libertarian who nobody's ever heard of but are still there (can't think of any names because I don't know who the hell they are) Then there's those who dropped out. Some of the ratings were especially tricky this week, though. Departed Jerry A typical get sick but I want to stay edit. Very OTTP. He never gave up and did his best to stay healthy despite his terrible conditions. I could see CPP4 or MORP4 because he knew his position, but it all tied back to his illness. OTTP4 Timbira Brenden Was in MOR territory most of the episode, but we saw so much of him and his trans-tribe alliance coupled with his businessman, competition-like view of the game that I feel he bumps up into CP. He was positive, he was heralded as a leader in his tribe and I think Taj praised him. CPP4 Coach Wow. What an episode for Coach. He was contradicted in everything that he said, and though I usually don't put much stock into the music, he got the most ridiculous music coupled with his contradictions. A possible CPN5, but I feel with the music, he was OTT. He could be summed up as "I hate Erinn" (which is why I was for Corinne's OTT last season due to "I hate Susie"). I see no NN because he avoid the malevolency that usually goes with NN (see Natalie, Randy), Coach was just unbelievable. OTTN5 Debbie She lost the challenge for her tribe, and talked about it. Since she got no flack from anyone, no tone. UTR1 Erinn The most difficult rating for me. She certaintly shared her view of things such has her view on the tribe and booting Jerry, but was it complex enough? From her own views, not really, it was pretty MOR. However, I feel she was bumped up to CP territory only because of others views of her. Coach sees her as the devil reincarnated, but we were shown she clearly isn't so. Tyson partly backed up Coach, but at the same time, recognized Erinn's will power. The fact that we have no idea what really to think of her makes her complex. The tone is a no brainer for me, she got a lot of negative comments, even if it was from Coach and Tyson. But, she also got some P from Tyson and herself. CPM4 Sierra Had some pretty meaty but small confessionals on the game, specifically regarding Erinn and booting Jerry. Some good stuff, and very strong UTR episode. Despite being dissed by Coach for challenge performance, that was reflected more on his hypocrisy than Sierra's faults. Maybe MOR but there was more comments on others, not insight to herself, meaning no mix of CP and UTR, meaning no MOR. UTR2 Tyson His main parts of the episode were his comments on Coach which was MOR commentary at first, but I think we got a view into his sarcastic, mustache-twirling, cyclist mind when he talked about his future position as a coach. It was very interesting and intriguing. His scenes with Jerry and then wanting to make Erinn cry were negative, and possible enough to keep him at MORN. But I think his Coach talk was complex. CPN4 Jalapao Joe He played an intregal part in Jalapao's reward win, and talked about it. Was really "hoorah" but I don't see the positivity. I guess it's possible, I'd have to read some debate about it. UTR2 JT The provider of the Jalapao tribe and was prominent in the fishing and tarp scenes. No tone, I picked up on no specific praise for him this episode. MOR3 Sandy Said some stuff, barely avoids an INV1. Hell, she could get it for all I care. UTR1 Spencer Talked to Jeff a little bit. Revelant, but minimal. UTR1 Stephen Some fluff confessionals about camp life, not bad stuff. No insight on the game, though. UTR2 Sydney Nothing. Maybe next episode, not this. INV1 Taj She had a pretty good exile scene with Brenden, and talked about the idol and the trans-tribal alliance that's in the works. I could see MOR, but I think there was enough insight on her game. No tone though. CP3 I'm posting these now because I'm sick of my internet closing shut down my Internet Explorer. Winners and such will be in my next post.

As I said in my previous post, I don't officially eliminate anyone until three episodes have aired. The time has come, so I'll get to it. Strongest contenders: Sierra, Spencer, Stephen, Tyson Still in there: Brendan, Erinn, JT Fading: Taj Almost out of it: Joe, Sandy Eliminated: Coach, Debra, Sydney I know, some may question why Joe and Sandy are still in there, though barely. Bob's win just scares me too much, even though his edit went against Edgic most of the time so maybe it doesn't even count. As for now, "Almost out of it" means that the next episode is crucial for them- if it's bad, they will be eliminated. Taj's story has been centered around EI, obviously, but the preview suggests she'll have a complex episode coming up. Brendan also needs to begin a story of his own, but now he is attached to the HII. Still, he is in the contender's mix and has a solid standing for now. Erinn is very close to being moved down to the "Fading" category. JT is borderline between the top and 2nd highest tier right now, and a good 4th episode could bump him up to the top. Spencer had a cooldown episode, in my opinion. Remember Yul in episode 4 of Cook Islands? That was his cooldown; no confessionals, and only two spoken lines, if I remember correctly. He was nearly invisible except for "We should call you Poseidon." Spencer can have a great episode 4, but if he doesn't, he might get bumped down a bit. Sierra still stands fairly strong as the biggest female contender. Stephen looks to have a big story arc beginning next week, further cementing his place in the top tier. And then there's Tyson. He's in it for sure, as we're always hearing things from his perspective. He could be a major red herring and just a fun, silly, manipulative character. He might even be the villain after he backstabs Coach, which the editing alludes to. He's been one of the few to have a place in every single episode so far. We've seen him strategize, we've seen a whole scene dedicated to him and his personality in the premiere, and we know where he fits in in Timbira- the assistant to Coach, which is exactly where he should be as a winner, the guy who the season's villain really likes yet who will backstab him in a second. Tyson is in a great place, but I'm not forgetting that this guy could simply be another OTT character by season's end. If I had to make a gut call for the winner right now, it would be Tyson for those reasons, followed by Stephen. Like I said, Tyson could easily be brought down a tier if he has a bad episode, but I can see myself eliminating him only when he is voted out because he'll always be somewhere on the contender list.

Yul is that by the 4th episode Yul was an established character with an understandable strategy. Spencer is a narrator. We really know nothing about him except he's young and looking forward to the physical stuff. the rest is basic narration. We really don't know that much about him - who are his allies? What does he think of the others, and what do they think of him? How's he adapting? We don't know.

I think his narrations in the confessionals bumped him up to a MOR rather than a UTR this episode, but still, he's not winning. JT - MOR3 - I dont think that there was any P in his editing in this episode. I think the Jalapao tribe is edited as the P tribe but I dont think that he was P in his edit at all. The MOR is for all of the narration confessionals. Sandy - UTR1 - Oh the loony sex kitten. Spencer - UTR1 - I dont remember anything he said, except for the Jeff question. Stephen - MOR2 - He was the third narrator for the tribe, but his narration seemed a little more in depth than JT or Joe. Still, this was a good episode for him. Sydney - INV - I was actually thinking that this is eerily similar to the Liliana flirt boot ep coming up. Taj - CP3 - I hope the Exile Alliance works because I love all 4. Taj has a great head on her shoulders and I think we got enough into her head in the scenes on Exile with Brendan for a CP for her even though her confessional wasnt all that complex. Timbira: Brendan - CP4 - I don't think that there was any intended tone for him this episode even though I was glad to see him find the Idol. The CP comes more from back at camp with us learning that he is an entreprenuer who is not doing this for moeny, but for seeing if he can win or not. Coach - OTTNN5 - I think this is pretty self explanatory. Debbie - UTR2 - Called out the RC. Erinn - MOR4 - Again she only came off positive in response to Coach and Tyson, I dont think she was edited as either P or N which makes me think that neutral is the best bet for her. I dont think she had enough complexity for the CP here either. We didnt really learn anything about her other than what was reinforced to us in Coach's confessionals which was more about showing their feud. Erinn's confessionals just told us that she needs to make herself seem better, but we didnt see how she planned on doing this. She was a definite presence this episode but she wasnt oversimplied enough for OTT nor complex enough for CP. Jerry - OTTP4 - Not a quitter. We didnt want to see him go but we saw that it may happen due to his sickness. We were supposed to be upset by this and rooting for him to stay in the game. Sierra - CP2 - Everything that she said was complex. A very nice cooldown and she is now my favorite to win. Tyson - OTTN3 - The N is probably obvious. I think he was OTT though because everything was caricaturish about how much he wants to be Coach and then about how much pleasure he takes in other people's pain. Winner's List: 1. Sierra - Got a good cool down episode and ties into the themes this season it seems. 2. Stephen - I'm waiting for the next time his tribe goes to TC so I can decide on him one way or the other. 3. Erinn - I'm not sure whether or not she will be a long term or short term character but it looks like her character will be involved in quite a bit.

He didn't get the GC tratment, but was hardly Jonathan Penner either. No emotional reactions to his exit. The guy was complaining about his tummy ache all episode and was shown as not an asset in the challenge. Yes, he is a soldier who fought for his country, but he's also the boring ally of Coach and Tyson (his UTR approach to leadership makes him Coach's stooge). If Coach is strongly N, if Erinn is healthy and wants to be there, why should we be sad she stayed over sick Jerry?

I'm calling it Exile-Alliance for now), it is a GREAT alliance if it holds true. I can see Brenden as a distraction. That does make a lot of sense. We never know though. ... Then there's Erinnnnnn.....what a GREAT 5th wheel for the Exile Alliance! She's already feeling in danger. Why not tag along for the ride and take out Coach's crew on the way? This reminds me of Parv making the alliance with Natalie and including Amanda in absentia. Wonder if Steph wil be LIVID about having to give up JT, lol. I do think Erinn will be in the Cirie position. She's likely Brandon's intended 5th, but not mentioend to make the alliance seem a square deal to Taj. That could mean Erinn gets less backlash from the jury, because an an outsider she'll be seen as less of a traitor than other exile alliancers

I haven't had reason to change since. These three have by far the most potential for end-game stories, as distinct from background noise and short-to-mid-term resolution arcs. Sierra and Stephen also benefit most from the season's theme of overcoming negative first impressions. From the others, Tyson's and, perhaps, Erinn's edit is the most manipulated whle JT is one to look for down the track. His scene of overcoming initial ignorance in catching fish to finding a way to get it done reinforces his edit of becoming something more that a country bumpkin. In some ways, the scene was reminiscent of Kenny's infamous boat scene without the initial comical undertones that accompanied Kenny's failure to steer the boat. And there is his relationship with Stephen that is likely to play out in the future.

She's not giving any impression at all that she is seeking out a win or even still wants to be there in the first place. Yeah, she made a conscious decision to work instead of look for the idol. Then she sought out Brenden to look for it with her. Maybe that can be construed as desire. But there's still something lacking in effort in terms of the game. I get this image of her being in the finals and, at the reunion, coming all decked out in whorish clothes that screams "look at me modeling agents! I'm a star" and doesn't react that much if she were to win. In some ways, I get this sense that the above mentioned attitude may actually hurt her in the end and certainly in the jury performance. Erinn, on the other hand, has stated on camera that she wants to be there and had a little bite when it came to her being able to stay and Jerry leaving. As evil as Coach thought it was, it showed that Erinn wanted to be in the game and would not want someone ready to quit to stay before her. Not sure if that means anything long-term, but it shows that she really does want to be there and wants to win (after saying in episode 1 "why am I here-I haven't camped since 7th grade"). An Erinn/Sierra final 2? Now THAT would be interesting! I actually get the impression at this point that if it were to happen, Erinn would win because she'd show more passion in front of the jury.

She has shown great insight and has had a cool down. She is playing smart and last episode had a thoughtful reaction shot to Erinn's "trust" comment. She's defintely endgame, and might very well turn into a classic CPP character with an arc from near first boot to jury threat almost like Kathy from Marquesas but without the craziness. Can someone explain why there are so many comments like this? Sierra has shown insight...when? When she said if it was her time to go, it was her time to go? When she said if the tribe wanted to vote her out, so be it? I don't get this, and even less do I get the comments about "if she were a man". I think the opposite. If people didn't think she was cute and "plucky", no way would she even be considered with the way she's been portrayed. I agree she probably makes endgame, but not because she is showing so much insight and complexity.

Perhaps they are already playing out jury votes this early? They certainly are giving insight into who likes who, aren't they?

I just think he's the class clown and that's what the edit is showing. Everything's a joke to him. I felt that when he was telling Jerry that he had not heard his name it was so he wouldn't give up, he then encouraged Jerry to act normal or whatever he said. He was shown mocking the most hated guy this season, Coach. I think Tyson is the comic relief thus far and I'm not entirely sure where the negativity is coming from. Also something to keep in mind. "Dragon-slayer" was hinted at by Probst pre-season. That could very well be Sierra, Erinn or Sandy. I wouldn't quite count Sandy out of it yet, the fact that she was way over the top and the entire first episode revolved around her was typically bad for edgic, BUT look at how they gave her 2 cool down episodes immediately following where she was almost absent. They're clearly setting up an Erinn/Coach storyline, but I think Erinn is still largely negative as opposed to Sierra who is positive as of now. Last Edited By: Mypoody2 03/01/09 4:23 AM. Coach reminds me of Lex and Shane, and they both voted bitter (anti-Rob and pro-Danielle). Could be the irony of Coach's ep.1 worthy opponent quote that he votes bitterly for Erinn or Sierra in the end.
