looking back it's a wonder Kelly got a second CD....

I think all Kelly fans have ever really wanted is for her to be given credit where credit is due. The fact of the matter is if Kelly's career hadn't taken off the way it did with her first album and hitting #1 with Miss Independent there is no guarantee that show would've went on to be the phenomenon it became. Kelly is the poster child for AI success stories because she did it without a map. She did it with SO many doubting she could. By the time Carrie came along everyone knew what was possible because of Kelly. Kelly wasn't taken serious until she proved herself worth being taken serious....after she did that, every other idol was taken seriously because of her success. Now you can dismiss that if you like but those ARE the facts.

and no, that doesn't mean Carrie or anyone else owes their career or success to Kelly. It means that Kelly is a pioneer in the world of music because she was the first to take what amounted to a stint on a reality show and turn it into an actual viable career based on her talent. She's made that last for 7 years and counting and she just keeps on making it happen. So far she's the only Idol alum to outsell her debut and doing it without one bit of promo on Idol, proving that she's viable without the idol machine behind her. That's pretty amazing IMO.

hey, I know, while you're at it, why don't we credit Star Search with Justin Timberlake, Christina Augerla, and Beyonce (or Destiny's child in particular really)...I mean fuck, they all appeared on Star Search too at one point or another.

Sawyer Brown is the only one that I'd say comes even remotely close....but still no dice.

Luckily for Kelly, she appeals to the tweenie set since they are the ones spending money on CDs so she has been able to maintain her career.

I especially love the last line.... the whatever is delightful because you know that you can't excuse away Kelly's success as simply being pushed out by the machine. It seems that those who allowed themselves to be pushed out by the machine have slowly but surely seen their subsequent efforts fail to live up to the product put out as part of their appearance on idol.

As for Kelly appealing to tweenies...I wonder...how long does one stay a tween exactly? She debuted in 2002...so a tween is 11/12/13/14 right? so that would make them 18/19/20/21 now..... are you saying that tweens, who are notoriously fickle in their musical tastes have stuck with Kelly through the last 7 years and that's why she maintains her success? are you REALLY saying that?
