Posts: 2011 (03/22/09 4:09 PM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Since we have once again a newer twist the "blind u-turn" I ask you all this. Out of everything The Amazing Race (the U.S. version of course) has added/implemented/removed/adjusted/whatever, what do you personally like the best, and even if you don't particularly like something, what do you think works the best? The list is as follows - Roadblock, Detour, Fast forward (1 per leg (minus 1st/last legs) or the sporadic 1/2/sometimes 3 per race), Non-Elim (just tell me what version you like best since there has been god knows how many different types), Yield, Intersection, U-turn, Speed Bump, and finally Double Legs. If I missed anything let me know, and once again I'm just curious as to what everyone personally likes.

Detours that make people fall down are quite entertaining. Like the roller skiing detour in the second leg of TAR 6. Also detours that require the contestants to row like retards, which is really politically incorrect.

When Dustin/Kandice had to wait for the Cho Brothers to arrive, I thought those two teams were surely going to be in the back of the pack for the rest of the leg, but surprisingly they worked well together and were able to get ahead of the other teams. I like when teams are forced to work together because it can go either way. The tasks I don't necessarily like are the needle in the haystack tasks which some teams breeze through and others fail, aka the haybales in Season 6 and the tomatoe detour in Season 10 with Rob/Kim. I like the Speed Bump task with the non-elimination. The taking away money didn't do anything because teams were able to still collect money in most countries unless it was a poor country. The Speed Bump makes the team work extra hard. I also liked in Season 5 when they had a 2 hour season finale with 4 teams instead of just seeing the 3 teams. Sorry if I ran off topic.

That can really fuck over good teams. Oh, I fucking despise those. They're not so bad when it's a Detour and they have an alternative, but Roadblocks like that are fucking bullshit. Really, leave a team's fate directly to chance? The task with the paint throwers where they had to look through a bunch of clues last season was fine. Ones where it could end up taking hours and hours (like the lock task in china) and a team could go from first to last I hate.

Hayden & Aaron and Adam & Rebecca were going to have to quit because of the last gondola of the day leaving soon. Just as they were both about to quit, Adam & Rebecca found it. One of the luckiest moments ever! Anyway, back to twist time. I hate any twist that has any of the Teams using a power to cripple other Teams. coughYieldU-Turncough It's supposed to be a race between each other, and it's not fair when another Team has to force another Team to stop racing or make up a crapload of time with another Detour option. The Speed Bump is another thing. I love the idea that it gives the NEL'd Team an opprotunity to prove that they deserve to still be in the Race by giving them another task to complete. I also like the Fast Forwards every Leg. That always worked with me more than them sprinkled in the route.

The money-loss was generally not a big deal and didn't make for very entertaining television. The 30-minute penalty unless you arrived first was hard to get behind as suspenseful, and if the NEL'd teams survived it was more on someone else's failure than their own merit. The Speed Bump forces the NEL'd racers to really prove they deserve to be in the race and work faster at every element of the leg. I don't like Fast Forwards. I like double legs.

X to the first and last; I'd like the FF if it was more frequent (not saying every leg but 4-5 for a shortened season) and more difficult (or exciting - climbing the SkyTower was good; counting stairs wasn't). And the task should allow multiple teams to go for it.

That was my favourite fast forward of all time. It was nail biting, you were on the edge of your seat... so if that is what you mean, then yes, I agree. As for the Speed Bump I like it. It's probably the best twist they've come up with. There needs to be a penalty for being saved during a non-elimination round, and I hate watching them beg for money - especially in countries less fortunate. As long as the task is fair, and isn't too far away from the other tasks, then I think it works quite well. I would like to see more fast forwards, but I wouldn't want them to go back to doing it every leg.

I dislike the finding of a small item from numerous items, like a red apple hidden among the orange apples as I can't seem to do it if we are in that place...

Indeed (and holy shit that was a damn good episode). I was immediately thinking of the eating-based FFs and the plate-smashing one. But definitely stuff like that (which is culturally relevant also) and not be a ballast in a stunt car or climb across a tall-ass open pit where the only factor is not being chicken.

Such a sad episode FF should be something many teams could do at the same time and not have any advantage to whoever got their first or who is stronger etc.
