I'm one of the few that have watched every episode of this show from it's inception. It's become a staple of Thursday night. When I went to 3rd shift 8 years ago, long before I had a DVR, I programmed my VCR to tape every episode for me.

Do I think the current cast even comes close to the originals? No, of course not. But I accepted them as they were introduced to me, and I came to like them for what they brought to the show along the way. I've learned working in real hospitals for over 20 years that everything changes. Nothing stays the same. I've been working in my current hospital for 17 years. I would have been there for 19 years, but I left for 2 years and came back. There are only 2 people in my department that were there when I started there in 1990. I could probably list 50 or more people that have come and gone since then, and I'm on my 4th manager, and 8th supervisor since I began working there.

The show, much like a real hospital, has had lots of turnover, with a select few, Malik, Hellae, for example, who stay the course and hang around for a long time. These are stressful jobs, and people burn out.

I'll miss ER, and I doubt there will ever be another hospital show quite like it.
