Any inflation of sales from Yelly's appearance on AI went straight to her ass. Most were interested in her pregnancy than her performance. You're right in the sense her sales were over rated to begin with and maybe she needed a boost on AI, but the truth comes through again and her sales in the next couple weeks will reflect that.

i think i'm confused by your logic on this post shyster. kelly's single (which is, i assume, what you are referring to) reached #1 on the hot 100 with sales of over 275K and then remained #1 for a second week, beating out the newly released lil wayne song. she's consistently remained in the top 10 of the hot 100 for 11 weeks now and has had sales of over 100K each week. her sales boost following idol was 38% and she barely fell the following week and certainly didn't plunge 16 spots on the hot 100 the way carrie's song did following her appearance on idol.

what do you measure success by? kelly's single has sold 1.5 million copies in less than three months. some of carrie's singles haven't even sold a million in over a year and a half.

if you are referring to kelly's album sales, well the facts are pretty straight forward. she spent two weeks at #1 on the album chart. her second week sales drop was 8% smaller than u2's second week drop (73% v 65%), her third week drop was exactly the same % as u2's third week drop (42%) and she's remained in the top 5 for three weeks running, even with a plethora of new releases hitting the charts.

album sales are down all across the market, in addition to it being an "off" time of year for music buying in general. do you intentionally disregard the facts to present the most negative view of kelly or do you actually believe that she's a failure?

and what does any of that have to do with carrie and why is it discussed so frequently in this thread?

Granted Kelly did try the country audience with Reba but that didn't really stick as kellys fans seem to wanted the pop kelly.

didn't kelly and reba's tours sell out? and didn't kelly and reba's duet reach #2 on the country charts? and wasn't that song nominated for a grammy and a myraid of other awards? i don't recall kelly ever actually giving country a full on try though i think she'd find quite a bit of success were she to do so considering she's already gained the respect of some big league country artists and country radio seems to love her.

yes, carrie sells albums, but admittedly not as many as she did with her debut release, even with a bevy of #1 hits. i personally like some hearts better as an album. the songs seem less forced and more authentic which is a strange thing to say considering how many songs carrie wrote on carnival ride. there are songs on carnival ride that i think would have fit nicely on some hearts such as flat on the floor, the more boys i meet and get out of this town. however, carrie's attempt to go "more country" left the album as a whole with a less commercial appeal, especially, i assume to those who purchased the first album based on it's pop/country flare.

carrie is a pop/country artist and her attempt to distance herself from that seems to have caused her popularity to dip, at least in album and single sales. i think she will return to her pop/country roots with the 3rd album, which i am looking forward to.

the wynonna comment confused me for a second because i didn't get the connection between kelly and wy but then i realized it was a poor attempt at a fat joke. wy is a very talented and beautiful singer. her weight, just like kelly's, does not diminish her strength or appeal as an artist.
