I thought "Lost" would be a biggger hit because the players there decided their own race course. Do you think that it is production costs that keeps TAR from doing more of this type of travel approach? It would seem to add to the challenge. I wonder how ABC was able to use the title "Lost". No NBC (I think) copyright? |

It seemed pretty cheap to make. They dropped them off in inexpensive places to film as well like the Czech Republic and Bolivia(And there was a third season I
think, but I don't remember it). The reason TAR doesn't work this way is because they want the racers to experiance certain things like Victoria Falls
and do things you wouldn't do if you were just racing. I really liked the concept though and if more effort was put in it, it could have been a great show.
Drop them off in the outback of Australia and make their destination be some ard to get to place and we could have a great show. It would be more about the
racers and their journey than an actual contest.
NBC probably didn't care about copyrighting the title. |

I watch it from Season 1, Eppy 1 too.. The best of season 1 is still the Tunisia leg.. :)
After seeing season 1, i was completely hooked and watch all seasons!! Wow never know people like to watch TAR because of Charla and Mirna.. Hehe.. |

the philippine leg of season 5...that's my first time i watched tar... although the leg was not that polished because of bad editing... i love the collin

Was thinking when Colin and his wife get eliminated..
The philippines leg also make the bowling mum get eliminated too..  All because of the Loose Roadblock rule..

Do you think that it is production costs that keeps TAR from doing more of this type of travel approach?I think it is more to do with safety and the ease of control - the change from the huge amount of self-navigation and use of public transport in TAR1-2 to the presence of cab every bloody leg this season really hurts the show but makes it easier to plan and execute. All because of the Loose Roadblock rule..Colin would have still beaten them since Christie was competent enough to have easily completed several of the past Roadblocks without any difficulty.

Started watching from the first episode of the first season. I have only missed 2 episodes - next to last episode of season 4 (huge power outage in
Northeastern US when TAR aired during the summer) and third episode of Family Edition (unexpectedly got stuck at work till real late). I never bothered to
watch either of those episodes because they are considered to be 2 of the worst of the entire series.

I watched seasons 1 and 2 on and off and by the end of season 2, I was hooked.
I got to see all the repeats of the episodes I missed on Game Show Network! :D |

Lost was completely different and probably much cheaper to film. They dropped all three teams off in some random corner of some random country in the middle
of no where with nothing but their backpacks and some MRE's and said Go. They were allowed access to their passports (and possibly $200) when they figured
out what country they were in. They had to figure out where they were hike and hitch their way to civilization and then convince someone into buying them
tickets to NYC. One of the three teams quit. The race aspect was different because they had no idea what the other teams were doing or where they were for
the most part.
It was more documentary than reality show. It was really cool but nothing like TAR. Nothing. I watched the first episode from the begining (while simotaniously video-taping lost) and haven't missed an episode. I've watched all the episodes from the begining of most of the realityshows on the main networks. I'm a reality-TV-oholic which is why I post here. |

First saw the second Malaysian leg in TAR 4 (the one where Millie & Chuck were eliminated) and liked the concept of the entire show. Turns out it was one
of the few decent episodes in that season and I only started watching regularly in TAR 5. But still, because of that, TAR 4 has a special place in my heart.

She did complete the "hardest Roadblock ever" (according to Phil). It'd be speculation to assume she could definitely beat Karen in a head-to-head climb or that Colin/Christie would necessarily correctly divide the Roadblocks, but it's a fact Christie could have done half the Roadblocks with little difference to the team placements: Leg 3- chocolate-eating. Luck-based and since they were first (or 2nd?) they had good odds. Even if she sucked at it, Jim/Marsha were far behind enough they wouldn't be eliminated Leg 5- going down a hole. No difference in their placing (though they did the FF, so they could skip it anyway). Leg 6 - digging for scarabs. Luck-based and even if she gets unlucky, Marshall/Lance quit Leg 9 - brickmaking. Colin sucked at it. Even if Christie failed, she would have a huge time buffer bc of the FF. And it was an NEL even if she completely bombed it. Leg 10 - zorbing. Which would depend on whether or not Colin would let her do it, but she couldn't mess it up. Leg 11 - climb the bridge. Everyone got bunched up and they ended up in last place anyway, so their performance made no difference. That's more than half where she could either couldn't fail (e.g. zorb/climbing) or could fuck up with impunity (e.g. brickmaking, scarabs). The only situation where I could potentially see Christie doing a Roadblock be so castastrophic that it could cause their elimination would be the ostrich egg - and Colin said on the show that he wouldn't make her do another eating challenge after the trauma of the caviar. |

actually, what mattered more was the willingness to do the Roadblocks. all of the Final 3 females in Season 5 are so reluctant to do a single Roadblock, and
for Christie and Nicole, as though they got Roadblock phobia after the caviar. they didn't even think of which member to perform the Roadblock regardless
of whether it requires more skill than strength or whatever, they just want to play safe if it turns out to be a tough one. and it doesn't necessarily
occur to co-ed couples - refer to Tian & Jaree. this is probably the trigger for starting the Roadblock rule.
and for Season 1-5 it wasn't even called a "Loose Roadblock" rule, there wasn't even a rule, but I suspect each team member must complete at least ONE roadblock before qualifying for final 3 or $1 million, since at one point of time earlier in the game they still have to decide who to complete the first few Roadblocks. |

When it first started, I wouldn't watch until they were down to final 4 teams as the airport scenes drove me nuts..still does at times
loved the Rob/Brennen finish when they beat the team from NY who thought they had it made as they were from there but, got beat totally missed the Flo/Zach season and when people kept talking about them , I watched it on a re-run first full season was with Reichen and his partner and Team Guido..have watched them all since and since I joined Sucks and they had a forum on it |

ADC, you're just assuming she's willing to soldier right through the roadblocks. she could pull a flo & quit. for all i know she & the bowling mom could dangle all night at the climbing roadblock in the philipeans.I agree it's about willingness, but I don't know how anyone can logically assume that someone as competitive as Christie (who didn't quit the HARDEST ROADBLOCK EVER, even though Bob/Joyce were more than 4 hours behind them) would somehow be unable to complete any of the other simple tasks. Colin didn't do the RBs because Christie was useless; he did them because he either thought he could do them better or just really wanted to do them himself (in the case of the zorbs). It just seems like fanboy wish-fulfilment to think that the rule change would have had any effect. At most it might have put Christie in a worse mood and affected the team performance, but even that's really a stretch. And in the hypothetical situation where she ends up doing the cliff-climbing task, she could quit - but that's true if you switch any of the Roadblock assignments. You could use the same logic to come up with "zomg if Margie did the underwear run instead of Luke she would have quit and got the penalty and if Luke did the RB in the following leg, he would have quit and they'd have been eliminated". On an unrelated note, it's pretty ironic that the RB rule was supposedly introduced to give advantages to the same-sex evenly matched teams, yet the first season it was introduced all the same-sex teams left by Episode 3 anyway. |
