Season 3 when they went to Vietnam and they had to paddle the tea cup boats. Excellent location and tied in the culture. Flo going crazy was a bonus.
That's the kind of stuff I like.

I agree the race is not so amazing anymore.
It's just an Okay Race. |

i think it's not about the location... it's about the task design and the teams... imagine eric in danielle doing a task in the eiffel tower... nice
destination, but <vomit> team...

I remember the Eiffel Tower task (Roadblock, TAR1; RM, TAR10). It is the most iconic places in the world.

papapago wrote:if the task involves eric flinging danielle down the tower without safety contraptions, then it is EPIC. this is an unpopular opinion but i found eric/jeremy funny. eric teamed up with danielle, on the other hand, was just a disaster. he became a humorless twat. |

This thread isn't about whether Eric or Danielle were a good team, or a useless team, or if teams are important. Teams are obviously important.
This thread is about destinations. This is a show called "The Amazing Race" about racing around the world. The destinations have been anything but amazing lately. Suckage more like it. |

This leg proved you can have go to an interesting location, but without the tasks and the teams, it's a damp squib.

Mooyou wrote:As far as I'm concerned, this is bullshit. Last season one of the legs was in Auckland, New Zealand which is where I live. They went up Mt Eden and there were all these Maori warriors there doing the haka in traditional outfits. This does not and will not ever happen in Auckland. There are no "traditional" Maori's as they showed in that episode up Mt Eden or anywhere else in Auckland for that matter. I laughed out loud when I saw that because it it just sooooo far from usual Auckland customs and traditions. They were just showing people what they wanted to see or what the typical "postcard" opinion of New Zealand is. I'm surprised they didn't let thousands of sheep loose around the city streets when they were looking for the Travelocity gnomes. And from other places and countries that I've lived in and visited for extended periods of time that have also featured on The Amazing Race I'd say the same was true. Most of the "culture" we see on The Amazing Race is totally fabricated and orchestrated to make the place seem more exciting - especially when they visit big urban, English speaking, Western world cities like Auckland. |

Most of the "culture" we see on The Amazing Race is totally fabricated and orchestrated to make the place seem more exciting - especially when they visit big urban, English speaking, Western world cities like Auckland.X The show has been touristy since the start - believe it or not, most Parisians don't go around the Eiffel Tower every day (and most Scottish people don't throw cabers). Some of the better legs do visit out of the way spots (Songwe Villae, Ougadougo) but Europe/Australia are definitely more touristy than cultural. The safari in TAR1 was travel-porn just as much as Bangkok zoo this season. The main difference is that at least back then it was genuinely a race since they did more to make the tasks actually challenging and teams had to drive themselves and take public transport the majority of the time - this leg alone they got chauffeured by boat, minivan and taxi, which makes the whole experience more of an amusement park ride where people only get kicked off due to bad luck or extreme stupidity. |
