Total agreeance w/ Dr. Will. Anyone who seriously thinks these penalties are legit is retarded and should DIE.

I'm entertained when they run out of money. For example, I like it when a team has to use a slower method of transportation because they weren't thrifty enough to save enough money. Allowing bribes/bartering would also be unfair for a team who can't afford to stuff their backpacks full of expensive stuff. The little guys did not seem at all shocked or angry when Phil gave them their penalty. They knew the rules, and they broke them. Again. |

I agree that the time limit is harsh, but using personal items to pay cab fare should instill a penalty. Otherwise, teams would just bring loads of
"personal item" in the race, and use them to pay cabbies whenever they needed to.

Was that the one from season 1?
You consider bribing people with items brought with you (reading TWOP makes me believe this rule is ONLY for people bringing stuff before the race) as a MAJOR adjustment? |

I think it should have been a 30 minute penalty

Just to clarify this, it is DEFINITELY an official rule that you may not use any items you have brought with you to settle a bill. It is covered in detail
before the race begins.
I don't know if this was a rule from season 1, but it definitely is now. Last season, Dan and Andrew bought shoes WITH RACE MONEY, so it was ok for them to use them to barter when their cash ran short. Had it been their original shoes, it would have been a no-go from production. |

I don't like when TAR introduces new rules to the race in order to try to make things more exciting, like when they bring in the speedbump or the yield.
But when they simply adjust the rules that racers exploited in the past, I'm fine with it. Really, you're just bitching for the sake of bitching about
something.

That said, the 2 hour penalty seemed bogus... Why not 30 minutes like EVERY other freakin penalty in the game? That way, it would have been a combined 1 hour,
and the brothers would have been just 9 minutes shy of staying in 4th place. Seemed an odd amount of time for me.

I don't recall it bribing people with items being done before, but if there have been instances I don't think there should be a penelty. Sure, I don't want them bringing extra cash, but anything else is fine. Every team comes with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. |

It's a good rule. I don't think teams that happen to be better off economically should be able to gain an advantage over poorer teams. Any advantages
and disadvantages a team possesses should be related to actual racing/task skills, not a bigger pocketbook. Really if you allow teams to this, you may as well
just allow them to bring their own money.
As far as the time goes, could it be that time was added because they were incurring their 3rd and 4th penalties of the race? |

I swear I've seen teams do this in every season. Maybe they changed it this season. I just think Phil hates the midgets.

If the penalty was shorter, people would just be like "Oh I can save 600 dollars by giving away my watch/shoes and only having a 30 minute penalty"

It's a trade off. If you don't want to do karaoke, you can barter your watch and a few bucks and have a nice chat with a local.

24 hour penalty is the longest while 4 hour penalty is second. It is depressed to other teams.

The only time anyone has even sort of bartered something was Linda & Karen gave/sold tourists oranges they nabbed at the hotel in Cairo, when they lost all their money in a NEL. Jonathan gave away candy that he'd brought, but got nothing in exchange. That's the only time I recall. |
