ugh, how can I see this without HBO?
I always think of Edie saying only she would want to play herself -when Julie Christie was mentioned to play her, or if not herself, Leslie Caron. And that a movie is going against everything she would have wanted. But I've read glowing reviews. How was it? Was it Staunch? You know, S-T-A-U-N-C-H!!! Finally got my hands on The Marble Fawn and will read it soon. "It's terribly tragic." Does anyone think something terrible is going to happen to Jerry? He's so terribly tragic, like the Mahble Fahhhnn. Little Edie love. |

Carboy, your avi is practically naked! Where is that gold hourglass-shaped pin on your hair-wear?
(Carboy, I recently relocated, and practically the only person I know here is my realtor, so...no.) |

If you were to watch that scene you would see the pin is on the back. :-)

I can't believe you can resist watching it! If I were you I would ditch work tomorrow and watch it three times.
I was able to avoid watching it for a 3rd time today but I did put The Beales of Grey Gardens in for about half an hour. :D And you are not going to believe this but my BF came home from the Las Vegas AIDS Walk with Grey Gardens (the musical) gifts for me from one of his friends. 1 is a baseball cap with the logo on the front that I won't wear cuz I don't wear caps but the other is a man-bag!!! And it has the musical promo picture on the front flap! And on the rest of the bag is newspaper reviews and photos. I'll take a quick pic...hold on.
^ The front flap. And the baseball cap.
^ Inside the bag with the flap up. See the reviews on the left side of it. Also the cap has the musical's opening date on the back of it.
^ The backside of the bag with the flap open. It has the continuation of one of the articles from the inside. I don't know that I would actually wear that anywhere either but it's cool to have! I can keep my DVDs in it and my Grey Gardens playing cards, keychains, program, t-shirt, and playbills that I got when I went to the last performance of the musical, on a very hot July 29th! It will be like my very own one-of-a-kind Grey Gardens To Go Goodie Bag! (very convenient to grab in the event of a fire!

The one tidbit of the documentary that always stuck with me was that the Maysles wore flea collars on their ankles while they were filming. Oh, and Big Edie
cooking on that hot plate while in bed. It really is just horrifying, but still endearing.
Little Edie <3

okay it was good
but - much as I love her - I have to think that Jessica Lange "winking" as Big Edie must have been added with CGI in postproduction. |

Now is Jerry the guy that they hired as a jack of all trades? I have read conflicting things about him, one that he lived at Gray Gardens with them and that he
helped them out, and then that he never lived there at all, that he was not allowed in the house because Big Edie did not like him.
etd: Very cool stuff Carboy.....

Lost and Found Dept. The Marble Faunby Adam Green March 6, 2006
"Grey Gardens," Albert and David Maysles' 1975 cult documentary, chronicled the lives of the eccentric socialite Edith Bouvier Beale
(Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's aunt) and her middle-aged daughter, Little Edie, who lived together in gothic isolation in a decaying, cat-ridden East
Hampton mansion. As aficionados will recall, the only regular visitor to the Beales' self-contained world was a sensitive teen-age handyman, with
delicate features, big hair, and a Brooklyn accent. Little Edie nicknamed him the Marble Faun, after the Nathaniel Hawthorne novel, but his given name was
Jerry Torre. No one had heard from him since 1979.

When I first heard about the movie, I was worried that it would be awful, but wow, what a surprise. I was astounded by Drew's performance. She's
finally making good on that Barrymore DNA.
And a big red x to the fac love. |
