I agree a lot with what TheSovereignOne, 8trackmind and a lot of other people have said in this thread about Anoop. He is my favorite AI contestant this year (and favorite AI contestant ever) I won't forget Anoop or how happy he made me feel this season.

I will miss his handsome face, beautfiul dimpled smile, charming personality, his intelligence, and of course his lovely voice. I will definitely miss his criminally underrated, smooth, satiny, contemporary, R&B style voice.

It broke my heart when Anoop was eliminated this week. I honestly believe that had things worked out better for him and had not went downhill as quickly as they did that not only could he have advanced to the top 5, but that he could have made the top 3, heck even the finals. IMO, his voice is that good. But so much went wrong along the way and him advancing that far in the competition and actually winning became impossible.

Pretty early on in the competiton it became less about whether or not Anoop could actually win and more about him just surviving for as long as he could and making it past some singers that were definitely IMO, worse than he was.

I wish that it hadn't gotten to that point (especially so early on) for Anoop but it did. And there were definitely reasons for why this happened and most of them IMHO were out of Anoop's control. When Anoop first appeared on the show, he stole a lot of people's hearts with his soulful lyrical, version of Boys II Men's "Thank You."

A lot of folks were very impressed with his initial audition of this song and decided to go to youtube to do some searches on him and came across his Clefhanger videos, which made him even more popular and loved. Add to what short clips we saw of him in Hollywood singing Stevie Wonder's "If It's Magic" which he sounded really good on, and "What becomes of the brokenhearted" and he had a large and solid fanbase. By the time the top 36 was chosen there was a lot of people rooting for Anoop to go far in this competition.

After he didn't make it through to the top 36, with enough votes after performing IMO, a decent version of "Angel of Mine", there was a lot of people saying that they wanted Anoop to come back. And so the judges/TPTB did bring him back during the Wildcard round. And then they did choose him to be apart of the competition even though they made it seem like they created the top 13 just for him. Even though Paula admitted it was for Jasmine and that Anoop was the first person from the Wildcards that they knew they wanted in the finals.

After Anoop made it to the top 13, things started to go downhill for him with only a few bright spots. He didn't give a good performance with "Beat It" and the judges ripped him apart and Simon even said that he didn't deserve to have made the top 13. And then Anoop came back the next week and gave IMO, the only performance of his in the finals, that was really a moment, with "Always on My Mind".

This is hands down my favorite performance of Anoop's. I thought that it was a beautiful performance of his and the only performance that he gave on the show, where all of the judges actually gave him the praise that he deserved without either bashing him too harshly, or underrating it. And is showed a lot of his haters/naysayers who wasn't convinced that he could sing that well, that he could actually sing quite well. And sadly, I think that was the last time in the competition, that Anoop had a chance of winning it.

After that, and a good performance of "Ooh, Baby,Baby" on Motown week, things went downhill and fast. We got the "Caught up" fiasco. I thought that "Caught Up" was a decent vocal, even if the dancing was awkward.

But the judges slammed Anoop so hard for that performance and then there was the whole issue with a lot of people thinking he "talked back" badly that night, and Anoop's reputation was tainted in a lot of people's eyes and he was never able to recover from that.

And then he came back with solid performances with "True Colors" and considered by many his best vocal to date with "Everything I do." But the damage had been done to him, by TPTB and IMO, all of the manipulative stuff they pulled with him, including trying to make him look bad in a lot of the viewers eyes, which worked. Add to that the idea that a lot people had that he the only thing he could sing well was ballads, and you have Anoop landing in the bottom three, four weeks in a row, and at least two of those weeks IMO, he didn't deserve to be there, because his performances were among the best of the night.


I do think that Anoop could sing other songs well besides ballads. But I think that Anoop was scared to attempt other uptempo and midtempo songs because every time he did that he got ripped to shreds by the judges, even when IMO, the vocal was decent like on "Caught Up". But I think that Anoop decide to stay in the box where he sung ballads well with an R&B twist on it, because it was safe and he was afraid of getting slammed hard again by the judges for trying an uptempo number.

But even that didn't stop him from getting harsh criticism. Simon said that he deserved to be in the bottom three after he sung "Everything I do", even though IMO, he didn't and that was one of the best performances of the night. And Simon stated that "Dim All The Lights" was his worst performance, which while I don't think it was his best wasn't his worst either.

I think that Anoop got really messed over by TPTB this season and that makes me sad. I think that he is a wonderful person and singer and I wish that he would have gotten treated better by TPTB and that things would have worked out better on the show. I feel like he deserved for this to happen and I wish that we his fans could have seen things work out better for him on the show.

I hope that things do work out really well for him after Idol and that he does end up getting a contract and living out his dreams of being a successful singer.
