If this show is as honest in the 4th season as it has been in 1 and 3 (and except for the stupid murder plot I'll add season 2), coach will be at ED. That's how these things work with a lot of positions like football coach. As grotesque as we all felt the firing of Coach was (okay, his contract was up, but he was booted), that was the honest way that this would have happened.

Note one thing that stood out. JD's dad, when he was talking to the board, mentioned that the new coach would accept less money (no doubt the board liked this, a lot)... because he's a first year coach.

Now, in the real world a first year high school coach would utterly destroy a fine program like Dillon has - and to go to the Texas State Championships 2 of 3 years indicates it is a very good program. New coaches rarely if ever do well in these circumstances. What will likely happen is that a lot of current Dillon players will do their best to figure out how to get into East Dillon. Again, that's how the world works. We might all think that this is good for coach, but it is also very BAD for Mrs. Coach, the principal of Dillon next year (we all assume). This potential conflict could be a huge - and honest - part of next season.

That whole thing about changes in the top affecting good programs happens throughout high schools, not just in football. It happens in all sports, and even non-sports activities. A great drama teacher quits and a theater program goes down the tubes. A nationally ranked marching band loses a director and the band is 1/3 the size in two years. Yeah, sometimes the program doesn't suffer much, but more often than not it's in crisis.

And that will be so cool in FNL!
