I think a lot of believers have questions about things, which is ok. Not all of us are Bible thumping crazies who spew hate filled messages every time someone doesn't agree. The human brain is too small to understand 'nothing'. 'Nothing' might actually be universal sentience dictated by order and stability. The 'something' that we comprehend is chaos, unordered and random. We need there to be a God, a 'something', because humanity cannot conceive of chaos. Yet chaos is the defining building block of the universe, the blender that whips the batter. Chaos is proven, thus there can be no God in the traditional Christian sense. There is not a God as our puny brains recognize it. There could however be greater sentients far removed from our understanding who may or may not have dictated the course of our present universe. To understand the basic identity of existence, you have to take off the costumes and pack them away. Anybody who approaches the greater questions of existence under the guise of this or that deity or 'the ultimate purpose' or all that is merely putting on big show that might describe reality within well-written dialogues and dramatic gestures but hardly gets to the root and truth of it. They also taught me how to manipulate people through flattery and other means. I believe in cults, because they are real..... much like orginized relegion and this so called "god"

All man has done is define God by human characteristics -- pathetic, jealous, puny and culpable to human emotions. I can believe in something more majestic and beautiful about the universe when I learn to shed the petty, limited nature of traditional religions. We do benefit to the unknown purpose of the universe when we live our own fucking lives and enjoy them to the fullest. In that sense, those who practice traditional religious are doing precisely the opposite of that. Man's greatest appreciation of God and the universe is through curiosity, not piety.

I think you cannot revere something that you have no interest in understanding. Thus, to me, curiousity comes before respect. Most religous people that I've known in my life think its blasphemous to try and understand anything. Human are indoctrined to follow rules, which is why the Bible exists. The Bible is like looking at the universe through a used straw.

It's a supplanting of the biological parent by something deemed greater than oneself, something that can not be attaned through physical attachment.
