There is something instead of nothing.
There was an original big bang, where all matter was concentrated in one place.
Somehow that matter was put there.
Otherwise there would be aboslutely nothing....not even a dust speck.
Maybe the entire universe and 4 billion years is a blink of an eye to God.
I believe and Weems is spot on with regards to the reasons why.
WylDawg Quote:And to answer WylDawg.......As far as when speaking about "man made" atrocities, believers would explain it as our "free will". God wants us to love him and obey without force, which is why there are those who would do horrible things. As far as "nature" inspired atrocities.....well that would be for God to answer and not us.
I'd like to believe in God, because life would be a whole lot less depressing, but it seems that for every "miracle" that happens in life, there's a hundred atrocities. I've always wondered how believers explain this.
Although, I believe, I really don't like what organized religion has become and actually go to a non-denominational church for this very reason. I think a lot of believers have questions about things, which is ok. Not all of us are Bible thumping crazies who spew hate filled messages every time someone doesn't agree.
