He was bitching about the fact the strong wouldn't get to the end ever since Tyson was blindsided. For everyone that thinks Coach would have a problem
looking like a hypocrite, you are wrong.

Actually he lied about the brain tumor. It was the excuse he gave his school for leaving during the play-off season. When the school discovered he was on
Survivor and NOT being treated for a brain tumor, they let him go. LOSER

Either way, he's an embarrassment to people with brain tumors.
It doesn't bother me nearly as much that there was a delusional person in my television, as that this person was in a position of authority to young women. I'd feel a lot better if he had decided to just stay out there... |

Coach - what a delusional, self indulgent fuckwad - there goes all the fun at Ponderosa.
Everyone else realized it was "just a game" once they were voted off - he doesn't 'get it' - it was 'real life' to him - "Mr Dragonslayer" - puleeeeeeeze The sad part is he thinks (in his small feeble mind) that he's right, and everyone else is wrong. Please oh please NEVER have this man on ANY TV show ever, ever again (after the reunion, of course). |

Trackmiller - Actually he had a "lump" on the back of his head.... a far cry from a "brain tumor."
During the bumpy ride to the Ponderosa with his self-proclaimed "broken-back" there was nary a grimace of pain except for the grimace he made trying to stuff too much food in his mouth. HE IS A POSTER CHILD FOR A FAKER. Then watch Coach say that he only wants to see Debbi and Tyson, that he has no interest in talking to the others (Sierra / Brenden) which is exactly the
same divisive tactic he employed to cause the Timberas to become arguably the worst team in Survivor history.

Oh Lordy... I never thought I would be writing a Coach defense:
In Coach's defense (I know, I know, I know)... watch his "you ask, they tell," video on the cbs site. He's surprisingly down to earth (at least, relatively speaking). He admits wholeheartedly that his gameplay sucked. He said he wasn't playing the same way everyone else was. He said he wanted to play with honesty and integrity and character, and to him, that meant buildng an alliance of strong players and remaining loyal to them till the end (Tyson and Debbie, later adding Stephen and JT). In his mind, the unethical way to play is to be sneaky and change your gameplan in the middle (which is essentially adaptation, the biggest goal of Survivor). While I don't agree with his game strategy, I think that in some ways we can seperate his gameplay ideology (integrity of maintaining loyalty to a strong alliance) from his obsession with mythology and ancient warrior/tribal cultures. In this video, he doesn't use any of that same verbage (dragonslayer, warrior, samurai, apache, etc etc) the way he did while playing the game. While I still laugh at him, this video (which was shot this week, as opposed to the final words and Ponderosa stuff) made me have a little bit more respect for him. Coach wanted strong players to make it far in Survivor, instead of the weak being rewarded for their weakness by taking out all the threats. He just got that "honesty, integrity" business mixed up with his adult version of Cowboys & Indians, creating this imaginary world that we have come to know as "Coach." |

rower wrote:Psst... rower. I already posted the videos on the last page here. I don't understand what's up with all the Coach hatred. Sure, he's arrogant and delusional, with a messiah complex, but he made this show far more entertaining. Jeff says in his blog, a bit effusively and overboard, yet true from a producer's standpoint: .......................... No sense in burying the lead. It finally happened. You all got your wish.... ............................ There are videos in this link, including an interview with Jeff and an interview with Coach: http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/05/jeff-probst-b-2.html

Has he not seen House? And the bad back? I mean he was whinging and moaning about it before he goes to Exile then uses his back like a crane to pick his stuff up instead of bending at the knees which is what you do when your back is sore otherwise you can seize it right up. And his fuddy duddy thing about the syrup squirting. *sigh* It's called 'having fun' you grouchy bastard. |

Coach is bitter at Pondarosa because this was "real life" for him, this was a real adventure - as opposed to those criminally exaggerated ones he has
to lie about because they sucked. Now he goes to Pondarosa and the rest are treating it as nothing more than a game. They played the game and are now just
hanging out together before the go home and back to their lives and Coach hates that. Their actions diminish his adventure, his mythology. The Dragon
Slayer's assist coach in the game Tyson is palling around with Brenden and Sierra, Debbie is completely over the game and is just having fun.
Coach is such a phony that he doesn't want to eat or shave because he wants to go home and have folks ask and wonder about him - so he can make up more stories about what he did. Of course he would have been sworn to secrecy about the game, meaning he could tell folks "I'm not at liberty to say" and leave folks wondering "Just what did Coach Wade do this time - did he do some covert op for the US military?" He's Don Quixote and his assistant coach is his Sancho Panza. But he knows he's faking it, you can see it in his eyes and it kills him. |

Like leaving the lift ticket on your #%+$$# and someone calls you on it because the last time you went skiing was two months ago.
I didn't even bother to watch his ponderosa part 2. Norm on Cheers was an entertaining pompous know-it-all ass, but then he is a professional actor. |

donutsrule wrote:I KNOW! Jeff offers that you can't prove or disprove any of his grandiose stories. But on Ponderosa tape, medical team documenting his weight loss at 31 pounds. Start at 180 and finish at 149, and he still has to beef up the story. I grew up with someone like him, they just can not tell something as it occurs, it has to be embellished to "vault themselves above others". This from the speech he gave about Erinn. And the tumor? A bump on the back of his head?? Probably a lipoma or fat tumor, a world away from having a brain tumor growing in your skull with only 6 weeks to live. YES he was great on the show, now he needs to just go back to his therapist and stay the hell off our tv. Anyone read he wants his own show? And Jeff P thinks he should have his own show? I hope like hell the reunion show is not the Coach show. I will be taping and fast forwarding past things he says. |

But you see, in the game of Survivor things are different than in real life. In Survivor Coach is one of the "weak" and his "weakness" was in his inability to play the game of Survivor with an attitude of "all out" game play. In Survivor lying and back stabbing aren't 'dishonorable' traits. They are basic tools. Coach was too stupid to understand that, what he saw as his "strengths" were, in the reality of Survivor weaknesses. So in that sense, he got his wish. The "weak" were booted out and the "strong" survive. |
