ABC earned an 8.8 rating/15 share in primetime, edging CBS, 8.2/14, for the top spot. FOX was a fairly distant third at 4.9/8. NBC, 3.2/5, came in fourth, and The CW drew a 1.9/3. ABC also led among adults 18-49 with a 4.5 rating. CBS, 3.4, snagged second in the key ad demographic, followed by FOX at 2.8. NBC averaged 2.3 and The CW 1.3. The next-to-last episode of "Survivor: Tocantins," 7.0/12, put CBS on top at 8 o'clock. "Bones" ended its season with a 5.4/9 for FOX. "Ugly Betty," 4.7/8, took third for ABC, topping the season finales of "My Name Is Earl" and "Parks and Recreation" on NBC. "Smallville" scored a 2.0/4 for The CW. "Grey's Anatomy" delivered a 10.5/17 for ABC at 9, beating out the season finale of "CSI," 9.1/14, on CBS. "Hell's Kitchen" took third for FOX. The season finales of "The Office," 4.0/6, and "30 Rock," 3.4/5, kept NBC in fourth, ahead of "Supernatural," 1.8/3, on The CW. The "Grey's Anatomy" finale improved to 11.4/19 at 10 p.m. The last "CSI: NY" of the season posted an 8.4/14 for CBS. The two finales pushed NBC's "Southland" to its smallest audience yet, a 3.0./5. Last night it got second after Grey's Anatomy's finale with a 3.8, beating such competition as The Office and even CSI. Considering how much everything else is falling in the ratings right now, Survivor's actually doing great.

Hopefully the sky is falling people will now stop whining and moaning about how its down X% from last season/last year/five years ago, etc... while ignoring every other show on the air.

There's been maybe three new shows this season that became hits, and everything else is pulling crappy ratings. Pretty much every show out there is suffering decreased ratings, so of course Survivor is, too. But the thing with Survivor, which in fact seems to be the same with most other big-name reality shows like American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, and most other long-running shows, is that its decline isn't that huge. It's still pulling over 10 million viewers, it's still pulling some solid demos, and it's still placing in the Top 20 every week. Hell, last Thursday it pulled better 18-49 demos than the finales for The Office, CSI:NY, and even CSI itself. CSI's starting to tank in the ratings, yet Survivor's still holding strong. Maybe it has to do with reality shows' changing casts and twists to the format or whatever, but considering the economic climate, Survivor's cheaper costs, the potential for product placement, and the solid ratings it still pulls in, Survivor's not going anywhere anytime soon. I think it'd be more likely the show ends from Probst finally calling it quits than it would from being canceled.

So many questions to be answered heading in to Samoa: Will the show be renewed for seasons 21 and 22? Will Jeff sign on for more seasons beyond 20? Will they come up with better scheduling for March Madness next year?

I can certainly see them pulling a former castaway for host should Probst leave (Stephenie? Rupert? Colby? Sure as hell don't hope its those first two!). Will he ever do it though? He pretty much admitted a few years back that he's traveling the world for ~80 days a year to exotic places and getting paid for it. Its a great job, and he's never gonna be in a more notable one than where he is now. Really the only way I see Probst leaving is if he starts a family and doesn't want to leave them for such a long time. But last I checked, he's still single... :P I do however think that the show's more likely to leave the air due to being pulled on the top, a la Seinfeld then dying a slow painful death. I don't see that happening for quite a while though.
