Fac I don't hate you! Believe me, our trip to HHI yesterday was totally spur-of-the-moment. Until that time I had no idea we were going there.

i was just kidding. this is a small town and locals all know each other or know of each other. it's pretty easy for me to get freeness because i own a
business here and we all trade out with each other.

hurricane fran. which wasn't really much of a hurricane.
If this was Fran of 1996, the reason it wasn't bad is that it hit NC instead of SC. It was pretty horrible up here. I want CRA to visit Savannah every year at this time. We are experiencing some of the most AWESOME weather right now. Low 40's at night and low 70's during the day. Beats the heck out of the 96 degree weather we had a few weeks ago! Savannah is a most AWESOME city, but I worry that some of the "updates" may be taking away some of that wonderful derelict flavor. Last time I was there, it was difficult to find parking and almost every single street was undergoing some kind of construction project. Not that potholes are a good thing, but it does detract from the gentility to see orange and white barrels everywhere. |

Hurricane Fran wiped out my parents' beach condo.
Bertha got all the press that year though. |

I was in Nantucket with Hurricane Fran. I was living with my sis and her husband who just had my niece. I had to go outside to smoke. If you've never
smoked under an umbrella in the middle of a hurricane, you re totally missing out.

Today we went back to HHI for the Marriott thingy. It was soooooo tempting...they have so many great properties and the quality is top notch...but we stuck to
the plan and said thanks but no thanks. We spent almost 2 hours with the guy, mainly because we were having fun touring the property. After that we found a
public beach at the end of the road the Marriott was on and went to it for half an hour. Incredibly windy, I'd estimate 30 to 35 mph, but it was warm and
the water was even warmer than yesterday. There was a dude out there surfing, or trying to, and he fell off his board at least 6 times.
Following that we went back to downtown Savannah for one more run down River St. We went to Wet Willie's for a Call A Cab then hit a couple of souvenier shops so I could get a t-shirt and hat. By this time the weather was actually starting to clear up and we even got to see the sun! After that it was off to Uncle Bubba's for dinner (blackened sea scallops for me, Paula's fried chicken for Diane) then we came back here to the hotel. I've got a few pics I'll put up in a bit, but we didn't take too many. While we were at the beach my friend in Jacksonville called and advised us not to come; said the weather was worse there, we should stay in Savannah or whatever. Well...we're gonna start heading back instead and spend Friday in Kentucky at the Land Between The Lakes. Its supposed to be 87 and mostly sunny that day. BOOYAH!!! |
