I haven't seen the show yet, but watching CNN (on the West Coast) I found out that Kris won.

How do I feel about it?

On the one hand, Kris should not be the winner. I don't hate him or anything. He seems to be a very nice guy, he is a talented guy... but I don't feel anything from him. He gave good performances, but just good performances. I barely remember anything that he did.

(In his favor, I guess, was that for the first time in American Idol history, a conventionally attractive male won. I suspect that that's what American Idol wanted all along. They already had their attractive female winners in Kelly and Carrie; it was a matter of time before the other shoe dropped and we had a conventionally attractive male win.)

On the other hand, Adam at least won't have "No Boundaries" as an albatross around his neck, and is now free to do whatever the hell he wants. I look forward to see what the hell he can produce in the coming years.

I know that Idol has serious flaws, but at the end of the day, you want the best person to win. The best person WAS Adam Lambert. He had been consistently strong throughout the competition, all the way through to the Grand Final. As a gay person, I would have loved to have seen a gay person (even though he has not spoken publicly on the subject) win the biggest reality show in the world. I guess that will probably never happen, even in this day and age.

Still, this was a better season than last year, when I bailed out after the semifinals and boycotted the rest of the season on the grounds that the show had become whiter than cocaine.
