Hi menelaus! Thanks so much for these Edgic ratings and AWESOME job on all of them! Your explanations are great too and I have a feeling that these are pretty much going to be the ratings on my "official" chart - maybe one or two minor differences, but it's clear that you have a great grasp of what was going on in the episode. I'm very impressed! :)

Charlie- CPM3. We got a bit of negativity with the whole blindsiding Dan and the self-righteousness toward Jacquie, but he still had overt positivity in response to Randy's attack on him. He has gotten some really good development in the past few episodes that makes him really look like he'll emerge as the winner. His tribal council comment was incredibly insightful and well articulated, and his lines give so much to interpret in terms of where the season is headed.

I think you're right here. I didn't want to be too deadset on either M or N, but I think M is probably best. I agree that he got some good development that has taken him away (a bit) from the boring strategy bot role, which is good for his overall chances.

Dan- UTR1. Was he there? Really, he was basically irrelevant to the episode, which means that the Jacquie boot has not effect on his fate.

Yeah, he was pretty UTR in this episode - just a background character. He probably gets a 2 visibility though. That' the one thing I'd change on your ratings.

GC- CP3. We knew where he stood, what he was doing, and where he plans on going. I didn't read this with any tone, it felt much more tactical than toned.

Agreed.

Jacquie- CP4. I didn't really sense a lot of tone out of it, even though the reward could have been easy toned either way. If anything, there was a very slight P, but not enough to really justify it.

I think you're right about this too. A slight P, for sure, but neutral is probably best in this situation.

Paloma- MORM3- This was a sort of odd episode for Paloma. In terms of insight, we only got her sort of long-term gameplan from before, and she really didn't do that much more insight into it. She also had some OTTness with what she said, she didn't really have that much dimension to her. The tone is a result of Randy being excessively mean to her, her justifying her statement, but she is still shown as unnecessarily ruffling feathers and losing jury votes. She feels like a very good F2 loser.

Yes. And like Charlie, I could see either M or N for her, so this is another one that has potential to change because I'm not sure that she had any clear positives.

Randy- CPN4. I was honestly ready to put him down as OTTNN after the first few pages, but basically the rest of the episode was CPN.

I agree on CPN, but I'm still not convinced that NN wouldn't work. I think he was extremely negative, it was just with a strategic purpose in mind.

For winners, I'm still with Charlie as first choice and Dan as the second, although GC pulling it out wouldn't be inconceivable, there just isn't that much to explain how he wins. He is ridiculously MORish and boring, and he hasn't been shown to be getting any jury votes other than Crystal's and Ken's, and possibly Randy's as well.

Thank you for your winner speculation. I think all of your thoughts make sense and are definitely well thought out. It won't be long now until we find out how it all ends.

I liked it a lot! I saw this as a better episode than the previous one, even though you seem to think it wasn't. Randy's a great character and I'm glad he wasn't booted yet, though it seems obvious he must go within the next two councils. Great strategy parts once again, the outcome wasn't clear at all.

Thanks. Very glad to hear that, but you're right. I thought the last episode (Crystal's boot) was a lot better than this one, but as I've seen a few times this season sometimes my opinions differ from everyone else's and that's okay. I would have put the Crystal boot as one of the top two/three of this season. Anyway, I'm glad you liked the episode and Randy's character, and that it wasn't an obvious outcome.

Thanks. This is another surprise because I didn't think the pre-TC scene was all that great again. I believe the one in Episode 13 will be a lot better because some interesting developments occur there.

Thanks. I'm very happy with a 9! As of right now, the average is 8.99, so the last three episodes all have an average of right around 9, which is interesting because I think some are clearly better than others. Hmm...

Charlie - CPM3 ( Hard time with the tone, he had clear negativity in his edit but it just seems wrong to make him plain CPN, because I didn't saw that as clearly either. I decided to go with M, but wouldn't oppose N or neut )

G.C. - CP3
Jacquie - CP4 ( Could see tone, but she was more like a solid strategist than a really likeable player )
Paloma - MORM3 ( Another hard one, she had both complexity and negativity, but neither was emphasized that badly )
Randy - CPNN5 ( I could see OTT, but the NN was clear to me. You couldn't have made him any more negative )

Awesome job on these Edgic ratings, and thank you for the explanations too. I definitely agree with EVERYTHING you've said there, and I'm pretty sure these are going to be the exact ratings on the official chart based on all the votes, except for Randy's visibility being a 4 not a 5. I do think he earned a NN.

Thanks for your Contenders / Eliminated lists. Just so you know, the chart you were looking at is tropical rain's own chart and not the "official" consensus one. I'm sure that wouldn't change anything but just wanted to point it out...

GC - Not part of the story early enough, and like that isn't enough it was really bad for him IMO that he didn't get a confessional about Crystal being booted early on this episode.

That's a good point. He briedly mentioned it on Exile though and said he was upset that Jacquie hurt his game by getting rid of Crystal. I know what you mean though about expecting a bigger confessional for losing his strongest ally who looked out for him the whole game.

Well, Corinne used that line in Episode 7 or 8 so I didn't want to repeat the "bromance" thing

Because Randy had been there twice already and it doesn't really have an impact on him. He doesn't care about going and not having any food or anything, whereas she thought it might weaken GC more (she didn't expect him to take comfort). I could see how it might not have been the best idea to leave a volatile Randy and camp to make life miserable for her alliance, but I just think she didn't want Randy to go 3 times when GC could be weakened.

-Randy's playing it unusually smart with Jacquie just coming back from the reward, especially compared to how he often does stuff based on who he's mad at.

Well, at this point, he's really mad at ALL of them (including GC for voting out Ace and the Ep 9 drama), so it's a matter of weighing who he hates more at a given moment.

-Kind of odd for Jeff to ask who was worried about being voted out after not winning immunity... a sign of GC going home for not raising his hand?

At first I was going to have GC and Randy say they were vulnerable and Jacquie not, but I thought that after Randy warning her about them "talking about voting her off" she would feel a little vulnerable.

-Sigh, I think Randy is a goner going into TC.
-Good Jacquie's gone instead of Randy.

Phew, that was a close one. I definitely could not lose Randy over Jacquie here. With Crystal gone last week, losing two of the biggest characters back-to-back would be disastrous.

At first I didn't think I was going to enjoy the episode, but it was actually alright, a slightly above average episode I'd probably say. Though I have to say the outcome is still disappointing seeing the trio still all together. Looks like my early prediction about GC is somewhat becoming true, he could be a few immunity wins away from winning the game.

Thanks. That is nice to hear about you enjoying the episode more than you thought you would. I'm guessing part of it is because you thought Randy was going towards the beginning and then you liked it more when Jacquie went. Yes, interesting that your predictions of Underdog vs. Dominator seem to apply to the endgame with either G.C. or Randy (!) as a possible underdog who beats out a Charlie/Dan dominator. It could happen, or something similar could happen.

Onto your Edgic ratings... Thank you very much for posting them! The ratings are very close to what I had in mind. Randy's tone was a little bit puzzling because I had all but decided to give him NN after reading nordicsurvivor's post. It's strange because Randy was undoubtedly negative, yet so were Charlie and Paloma at times and it's true that I wanted you to sortof be rooting for Randy in a strange way. So I think that's why you probably gave him a P. I know you had a question mark by it, but I'm just not sure if the fact that C/P were a bit negative would erase Randy's negativity too. I actually think this was an overall negative episode, whereas the next one has a lot of positive people.

1. GC (He's well positioned in the story to pull off a dramatic turn of events to win, to divide and conquer the trio, and has decent numbers)

I think you're right that he could pull something off. nordicsurvivor has a valid point about him not being too involved in the story at the beginning, but as you say his numbers are pretty good. I think the trio would have to do something pretty stupid to lose the game at this point though when they could easily pick off Randy and G.C. We'll see...

2. Charlie (I guess he's still the best choice, but he makes me nervous in a 'too obvious' to be it way, so that's why I put GC on top this week. Just watch GC go home next episode)

Sometimes the simplest explanation ends up being the right one. But if Charlie doesn't win, then I think I'm proposing a new Edgic "rule" based on his type of edit.

3. Dan (He's running the risk of being too P right now, though he stepped back this episode, that's good, I was starting to wonder if he's going to become too much of a distraction)

I know he had two CPP5s but other than that, he's had surprisingly quite a few MOR2 and 3ish episodes to balance out, and an UTR2 this week.

-Randy (He's gotten too N and too visible overall to be the winner, though his tone problem has been improving the last 2 episodes)

He's definitely going to get an N this week, if not an NN, so I'm not sure if I would say it continues to improve. The other side of that is that last week's episode explained why he is the way he is, and his negativity this week was with a demonstrated strategic purpose in mind, so as Dan said, it's not just negative to be negative. There's a reason why.
