It's a pretty fucked up system with non-AT&T users getting busy tones or dead air while AT&T users can power text exponentially. I could power text 8000 times in 4 hours with AT&T phone while my mother could get through using her landline phone just 8 times during 4 hours. Not fair. You want your votes, you need to buy an AT&T phone with unlimited text messaging because AT&T is the corporate sponsor. <br><br> Then add to the mix that the corporate sponsor's reps -- and I don't care if they're local AT& T employees with demo phones -- they represent the corporate sponsor are out helping one of the candidates. It shows that AI's producers do NOT have enough control over the voting.<br><br> Next year, will Ford Motor Co. local reps be driving people to voting parties? |

It's all ACORNS fault!!! Obama cooked this scandal to make people forget about the shitty economy and the Billions being printed everyday, Bush did the
same thing with poor Michael Jackson's scandal ;) American Idol is done, this will bring to question every elimination or result past and future. This will
stick in the American psyche (at least the awake ones) for a long time.

And, yes, Ford was also trying to sell their product at watch parties too: Ford and House Party Host 1,000 American Idol Finale Parties Across the Country. FOX made their bed with AT&T. I don't see it changing. But at least it's fair. |

That's what you get for watching a show like AI.
It's not like AI is the only show who does it, they just get to do it on a larger scale because the show has become so massive. Canadian Idol does the same thing. Telus is one of their corporate sponsors and you could get special content and videos but only if you have one of Telus' brand new cellphones with Spark. You could only text vote with Telus. Plus with the mini-tour CI does you could only get special meet & greet passes if you bought a certain amount of new Telus accessories. Fans get screwed, especially young kids who love the show because their parents won't buy/don't need Telus accessories or a Telus phone. I'm sure other Idol shows have similiar things. Everything revolves around turning a buck. If you choose to watch then you have to "suffer" the consequences. |

Two thoughts come to mind however. First, I get AI needing the sponsorship in the early days. Now, you have no IDEA what a moneymaker AI is for the network,
TPTB and even the corporate sponsors. So AI should have the clout to reign in and control it's corporate sponsors. Even if this last AT&T scandal was
"fair," every news show yesterday, even CNN was talking about Adam "being robbed" and how AT&T influenced the vote. Is that
"fair" to Kris? And it makes AI look stupid and sleazy.
But the BS of having just 2 or 3 dial in numbers once you get down to 5 or less contestants is just plain cheap and ridiculous of AI. Either they should pay for more or request AT&T provide more. AT&T gets all that texting revenue so it's time to pay up. IMHO AI is poorly executive produced and has taken a nose dive since Nigel has left.

AI makes tons and tons of money but corporate sponsors bring in even more money. The more money the better is obviously TPTB's mantra. They're not
going to do anything to piss off the sponsors even if they do have the money to function without them.
As for the media talking about the AT&T controversy they'd be bitching about Lambert being "robbed" regardless of whether or not they actually had this controversy. This so called scandal just gives them a reason to stretch out the non-issue for a few more minutes. |

The mook who came up with the phony 38 million votes from Arkansas rumor was also stupid and sleazy. So was Katy's cape. Life isn't fair. But at least
the AI rules, such as they are, are.

I can't believe other channels competing for viewers would want to report a story on their news shows that might try to ruin
American Idol's image...how come they never say nice things about American Idol?????
I have an idea...if you're that offended by this TRAGEDY of American Idol sponsors trying to make an extra buck through marketing, don't watch. |

Screerider wrote: Well, if you all believe that AI is well-produced and all rules are fair, that's fine. I see a huge quality drop since Nigel has left, from the 4th judge to even the cape incident. As for rules, why no rules against guest stars not promoting their favorites? I have no idea if the hype helped or hurt Adam but the stunt gave off the appearance of favoritism and reminded me of the crap pulled during the game show scandals of the 1950s. Another example of poor executive producing giving AI a black eye this year? Embarrassing Billy Joel and making him look like he pulled out last minute on the poor blind guy who therefore didn't get his duet. I KNOW that Billy Joel's people were really pissed by that. They had to publicly embarrass AI saying Joel was never invited just so he didn't look sleazy. Wanna bet many celebrities won't do the show after that? And it sure makes AI look really good about lying to the blind kid in the first place about how they had gotten him Billy Joel. I might be being hypercritical since I produce for a living but the producing this season seemed to me to be a lot sloppier and lazier than in previous seasons. And maybe I'm off-base to attribute it to Nigel's absence but there is tons of room for improvement and given the $$ being raked in, AI owes that improvement to both its contestants and fans. Again, just my opinion. |
